Hanauma Bay Lookout highlights
The Hanauma Bay Lookout was formed within a volcanic cone, giving it a unique curve-like shape. Its name derives from “Hana,” meaning bay, and “uma,” meaning curved. After decades of overuse, Hanauma Bay was declared a protected marine life conservation area in 1967, leading the way for a marine education center in 2002.
In addition to the Hanauma Bay Lookout trail, you could also try the Hanauma Bay Ridge Trail, an easy but longer hike that leads you to the Hanauma Bay rock. If you'd like some aquatic adventure while you're here, snorkeling is the most popular activity in Hanauma Bay.
