A hike in the local area is all well and good, but sometimes you need something a little more ambitious. What about a cross-country hike? As part of Bergen's 950th anniversary in 2020, the municipality created the Jubilee Trail - a hiking route of just over 50 kilometers from Fana to Åsane. Expect to spend 22 hours in total on this hike, which means it's okay to split it into eight more manageable stages.
Another long and beautiful day trip is Gullfjellstoppen, which with its 987 meters is the highest peak in Bergen municipality. You can tackle it from many different sides, but the most satisfying one is probably to walk along the cairn row from Nesttun via the top to Trengereid. Shorter and faster routes from Gullbotn or Osavatn are also good, breezy experiences.

Stiftsgården is located in the heart of Trondheim. As well as being one of the largest wooden buildings in the Nordic countries, it is the royal family's official residence when they visit the city. The estate is considered to be an important work in Norwegian architecture, but it is uncertain who the architect was, and which artists were responsible for the interior decor.
In the summer, parts of Stiftsgården are open to the public, especially when the royal family isn't staying. Join a guided tour around the various halls for a glimpse at the life of the Norwegian royals and to learn about the history of this royal residence.

With a height of just 317 meters and no distinctive peak, Damsgårdsfjellet is the least noticed of the seven mountains around Bergen. It is still very popular hiking terrain with its many trails, so many in fact that it can be a little confusing, so it's worth knowing your bearings before you set off here.
A popular route is from the bathing area at Tennebekktjørna in Nipedalen. This route rises steeply up to Nipetjørn and Gravdalsfjellet with signs east to Damsgårdsfjellet. From the eastern side there is a signposted path from Melkeplassen, which is as steep as from the other side. The top of Damsgårdsfjellet is actually lower than several of the neighboring peaks, but because it is located at the back, it has a privileged view of the entrance to Bergen.

Until the 1990s, Grünerløkka was a fairly busy and tired area, mostly characterized by workers' housing and pensioners. Then a small miracle happened, and the district, which had once been so drab and gray, became a colorful and vibrant place to live.
Over the years, "Løkka" has become one of Oslo's most popular districts and a fun place to visit for its bustling life, trendy eateries and comfortable, public outdoor neighborhoods. A must-see for anyone who wants to support the small, independent stores, where you can get to know the employees and find completely unique things.

A trip along the Nidelva is a great activity if you are in Trondheim and want to kill two birds with one stone by getting both some exercise and sightseeing done. You won't come across many hills, which is why you'll find plenty of walkers, cyclists and runners along here.
As well as enjoying the view of the beautiful water, you can admire the old wooden houses, the green neighborhoods and the famous sights such as Nidaros Cathedral. If you like fishing, you can even take a fishing break along the way. The Nidelva is known for being a good river for salmon fishing.

Eikedalen Ski Resort is just one hour from the city. And you won't regret a trip here because there's always a high chance of snow, a great choice of slopes and it's very family-friendly. With both a ski school and a play area, everyone can have fun in Eikedalen, perhaps with the exception of true adrenaline junkies.
One of the things that attracts so many people to Eikedalen ski center over other ski resorts in the region, is that it is easy to get here from Bergen by public transportation. The first bus leaves at dawn, and the last bus home leaves long after they've stopped serving at the apres ski bars.

Troldhaugen was the home of the world-famous composer for many years and since his death it has been a place of pilgrimage for music lovers from far and wide. Here you can look around the living rooms and lounges that are decorated exactly as they were when Grieg lived, walk around the green property, and look into Komponisthytten where he worked and found his inspiration.
A building was recently erected with a small museum and a fantastic concert hall for chamber music. The museum gives you a nice introduction to Grieg's life and work, but the experience is not complete without live music, so take in one of the lunch concerts arranged daily in the summer, which includes Grieg's own piano music and occasionally also a choir performance.

Fiskevollbukta bathing area is a small area east of the inner Oslo fjord, where the Ljanselva river flows into the fjord below the district of Holmlia. Due to limited access, the general size of the area and the lack of facilities, Fiskevollbukta doesn't attract large crowds, but is without a doubt a nice place to find a rock, enjoy the afternoon sun and swim in the fjord. The small tongues of sand that lead up from the water's edge are just right for small children who want to wade in the shallows, although the shells and stones can feel sharp on their feet. The bus stop on Mosseveien just above the beach makes it relatively easy to get here from other parts of the city, and good hiking opportunities in the forest south along the Bunnefjord make this a good allround spot for hiking, picnics and bathing.

The zipline on Ulriken is for those who think the Ulriksbanen runs too slowly and the mountain top isn't windy enough. It extends from just below the terrace at Ulriksbanen's upper station and takes you on a whizzing 300-metre long soar.
You are of course safe and buckled in, but few will manage the trip without some pretty hefty butterflies in their tummy, which begs the question of what feels best: soaring through the air or arriving at the bottom. If you feel dizzy when you take the Ulriksbanen, you should think twice about whether this is an activitity for you. If flying is your passion, it's a good start.
