Montenegro

What you need to know before you go

Montenegro is a Balkan country that’s renowned for its fantastic beach resorts and quaint, ancient towns. But head away from the Adriatic coast and you’ll be spoiled by the natural beauty of the country’s rugged peaks and deep river valleys. Even its name translates to “black mountain”.

A young country, Montenegro only came into existence in 2006 following the breakup of Yugoslavia, but you can still find charming medieval towns that offer cultural encounters and a rich heritage to explore. Extraordinary sights within cities like Budva include elegant palazzos and stone monasteries built into rock walls.
