A brief history of Teatre Principal in Mallorca
Teatre Principal began construction in the early 19th century as the Casa de las Comedias. The theatre began with an open-air design and 3 floors. In 1854, the construction began on the new theatre, the Teatro de la Princesa, which was inaugurated by Queen Isabella and the Princess of Asturias.
This new theatre was bigger and featured a semicircular floor and 2 storeys. Unfortunately, the theatre caught fire not long after and needed to be restored. In 1868, the theatre was reconstructed and opened with its Teatro Principal name. In the years since, the theatre has experienced expansions, dressing room remodels and the addition of new technologies.
