I would rate Mountain Star Inn about 2.5 stars — slightly below average — but that option isn’t available. It’s not quite a 2-star, yet it doesn’t reach a solid 3 either.
When we arrived, there was a large laminated sheet on the bed listing numerous rules, most stating a $250 fine per incident. The fee amounts were unusually high, some policies were unorthodox, and the fines listed on the sheet differed from those on the door, leaving a poor first impression and little confidence in management.
The bathroom only had a fixed rain-style shower head with no standard adjustable shower head, which was odd and impractical. The exterior railing was made of welded and painted rebar and was flimsy — something I’ve never seen before and likely never will again. Many areas of the property — inside the rooms and around the exterior — reflect poor maintenance and deferred upkeep. While the room was fairly clean overall, multiple surfaces, fixtures, and exterior elements looked worn.
On the positive side, the room included a decent-sized TV with DIRECTV service. There was also a refrigerator with a small freezer compartment and a microwave — both convenient features that added value. Parking is close to the rooms and all units are ground level, making loading and unloading easy.
Overall, the stay wasn’t terrible. While it is a budget hotel and priced accordingly, there are several other options in Cedar City at a similar price that offer a better value and a more polished experience.
