My recent stay at Sonder Chelsea was profoundly disappointing, marred by a series of shortcomings that one would not expect from a reputable accommodation. It became quickly apparent that this establishment was more akin to a poorly managed hostel than a hotel.
The room design included a perplexing glass door for the toilet, offering little in the way of privacy and comfort. This was just the beginning of a slew of issues that made my stay less than satisfactory.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by a room that was dirty and clearly neglected, with no sign of recent housekeeping. The inability to request cleaning services through the hotel’s app further exacerbated this issue, leaving me in a situation far below any acceptable standard of cleanliness.
Moreover, the room was both dark and humid, lacking proper ventilation and adequate lighting, which created an unwelcoming and depressing atmosphere. This lack of attention to guest comfort was disheartening.
The most glaring issue, however, was the complete absence of a reception or any welcoming presence, which made it difficult to address concerns or seek assistance. This absence significantly detracted from the overall experience, leaving me feeling unwelcome and unsupported.
Amidst these challenges, it’s only fair to acknowledge the staff members we did encounter, who were notably nice and attempted to be helpful within their means. Unfortunately, their kindness was the sole positive in an otherwise disappointing experience.
