The Village markets as a five star resort, the location is definitely 5*, but the resort and the staff are not up to standard. The villas are mixed, the higher category villas are really nice, but they do also cost a lot, the lower category garden and seaview Villa are ok, but not more than that. BE careful about the location, since some of the villas have quite a long and hilly walk to the beach, restaurants etc.
The staff/service; In the restaurants it seems that more than half the staff are trainees, which do not speak English or know about the offerings of the place. This correlates badly with the rather high price level of everything! At the most high-priced restaurant (THB 5k/2pax), the service is divided between no-knowledge/no-English trainees and a "manager" who speaks very good English, but is rude and assertive in a bad manner.
It seems that The Village would like to be something, they are not. The prices and the self-image are 5* resort, but the service, the villas and especially the staff is not near to 5*, but rather a mediocre 3* place.
