Twilight Zone: San Diego
The whole neighborhood feels like a dystopian resort city, as if it were once a popular area but has declined in the past few years. So, where to begin? There are tons of hotels, but parking costs a fortune, and so does the lobby cafe that has no visible price tags. Tip: Bring your own water unless you enjoy paying nearly $20 for a couple of bottles.
Our room? Not great. It smelled like mildew, there were ants all over the bathroom, and the furniture was stained and wobbly.
We took a walk to the mall via the bike path, which involved passing some homeless camps and a bit of sketchy activity. The mall itself was a weird experience; it's literally falling apart, yet has surprisingly high-end stores.
I had to stay in the area for reasons, but next time I’ll definitely know better and pick somewhere else.
