We are a family of three. This is one of the coziest, nicest hotels we've ever stayed at. It's located on a great street just across the river (5 minutes walk) from the very old center of town. The hotel itself is in an 800-year-old building which has been renovated to have all comforts, but still maintains a wonderfully ancient feel and is tastefully decorated with museum-quality antiques. The hotel's elevator is lined with heavy timber from a cattle cabin the Austrian Alps and our room (403) had raw, soft wooden floors of a kind I've never seen in a hotel before. There is a great dining terrace on the 4th floor with a door that leads right out to a walkway that heads 5 minutes up a hill to the highest overlook in the city of Salzburg. The breakfast at the hotel is very generous and very delicious. We didn't get to eat dinner at the restaurant, but I suspect it is good as the owner serves beef from his own cattle ranch in the mountains outside town. I spoke with the owner, Hugo, on our last night. He mans the front desk in the evening and is a very friendly guy who is obviously very interested in giving his guests a good experience. He had lots to tell me about restorations he has done to the hotel since he and his parents took over in the 1980s. I can't rate this place highly enough. Thanks Hugo! PS: Hugo and his wife collect old dogs that have been abandoned to give them good years at the end of their lives. And he runs his hotel the same way! With love. You can feel it!
