If you're looking for a place in Windhoek where you'll feel welcome and at home right from the start, the Uhland will be a good candidate. The place is nice and clean, the rooms are spacious (some of these have aircon, others haven't, ours just had a large fan in the ceiling, but this device actually did a very fine job, even in the middle of the hot summer period). The breakfast is nice - and if you do not fancy sporting out into the town at night, the snack-style restaurant serves a small, but nice selection of dishes (their combo platter with local specials is really a must-try!). The hotel management sponsors local community projects, and in return, hotel guests are given the possibility of peeping into everyday life in the less wealthy suburbs together with locals at a - really - marginal fee. For our part, we joined a true African Sunday morning service at a church in Katutura ... with singing, dancing as well as words of wisdom ... followed by a short private sightseeing in the are … a truly wonderful and warm experience giving a fantastic start to our stay on this continent.
