Overall I loved Switzerland, and while this hotel offers an amazing and convenient location in Wengen just a couple minutes walk from the train station and numerous bars / restaurants, there are a couple things to keep in mind.
- My biggest reason for the low rating is the condition of the overall building. It was built in the early 1900s, and while the exterior is very charming, there is virtually zero noise insulation inside. My experience was that it didn’t matter what time I wanted to wake up, I was going to wake up whenever my upstairs neighbor decided to get up. Every single foot step leads to a loud wood crackling sound. If you’re a deep sleeper, then MAYBE you’ll be okay, but I found it maddening. I would highly recommend trying to secure a top floor room.
- When I arrived the shower drain was clogged. I initially reported the issue right away on my first day, but then 3 days went by with no solution. After I brought it up a 2nd time, it was fixed.
- The hotel does not have air conditioning, which this alone is fine and normal for the area, but when opening windows during summer, keep in mind there are no screens to help keep bees and other bugs out.
In summary if you’re on a budget, are a deep sleeper, and can get a top floor unit, the hotel is worth it. Otherwise, I would spend extra and stay somewhere else.
