We had room 15 up in the attic which was beautifully decorated in soft green. Like the rest of the hotel, the room was full of character with original oak beams and floorboards. We had a wonderful cast iron roll top bath in the main room, a huge bed with the best quality bedding, a small area to hang clothes and some shelving/ drawers which was fine for a short break. There was also a separate shower room with a huge shower, and the most luxurious white towels we’ve ever had in a hotel, and lots of bottles of toiletries for guests use. There were tea/coffee making facilities with a very good choice of teas, and a Nespresso machine with a variety of pods which we thought was an excellent touch. The downsides to this room was that it was up 2 flights of quite steep stairs, and it was rather hot, although to be fair we stayed there during the recent heatwave, but we drew the thick heavy blind during the day to help keep heat out, and we could’ve asked for a fan. We had 3 very good breakfasts and two very good meals in the restaurant, and the outside area is really very very nice to sit in and have a drink. There is a working water mill in the grounds, and everywhere is kept very neat and tidy…in fact the hotel and grounds are also a wedding venue, unsurprisingly. All the staff are very helpful and lovely.
