The Josephine is a nice building in a beautiful location, but it badly needs upgrading. We were there during the recent heat wave, and our “air conditioned” room never got below 85F. The tiny A/C unit labored badly, augmented by a small table fan for a room for four people. If we slept with the windows closed we roasted; if we slept with them open we wrestled with the noise from the all-night party in the square. The lock on our door (one key per room) required a safecracker’s touch to open. The one-person elevator was out of order as often as it was operating. The hotel advertises laundry facilities but does not have them.
We paid for breakfasts twice, but every morning the staff hassled us about it.
I think if we came when the weather was nice, I might have found the shortcomings more charming. It is a nice locale, and the attached Italian restaurant is very good.
