Only stayed for one night, couldn’t check in untill 5:30 due to no clean bedding, got given a £10 coupon to spend at the bar though as a sorry.. Couldn’t use the restaurant area as it was closed so had to use the bar for evening meal, this area needs attention,I wouldn’t say this hotel was 4star , front of hotel looks great and swimming/gym area spot on. Staff was nice, even with all the other customers complaining about things, food was so so nothing special. This could be an amazing hotel but needs pulling together by management..

Unfortunately one of our rooms wasn’t ready when we arrived. We are a family of 6 (4 children under 13). I paid for two superior doubles which said it will sleep 3 people each. The double bed was fine but the single was a folding bed which wasn’t comfortable. The breakfast staff need training in hospitality and how to speak to people as they weren’t comfortable being there (they were perfectly polite just seemed like school leavers without a scooby). The big plus were the staff in their Waltons Bar where we had dinner - they were switched on and very friendly and the service was good. I would avoid the desserts as they weren’t worth £7 (the chocolate brownie was dry and crumbly - maybe worth 25p) - they could have bought one from Tesco’s that would have been better. The staff at the swimming pool were fantastic and really helpful and we enjoyed the swim. So, to the management: keep the laundry in trolleys and not lying all over the floor. Train the younger staff and give them a script to learn in hospitality and things they need to say. Have a dress code for your staff (tight jeans with mobiles sticking out of back pockets is not a good look for your hotel); make sure there is more than one station for tea and coffee at breakfast, have someone at hand to ask People if they need anything at breakfast.

The leasure facilities were lovely and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is very tired and dated. We had booked two rooms which deffinalely require updating. We enjoyed the area spending time with family and friends.

The hotel is clearly struggling to get back up to speed post covid. There were a lot of new staff learning the ropes, the longer serving staff were friendly, helpful and polite. The pool was lovely, such a shame that other residents were not following the covid guidance. Re covid precautions the hotel had done everything it could, above and beyond. However a number of guests elected not to wear masks etc. I'm thinking that due to staff shortages the restaurant was not open for evening meal, and only continental breakfast was being served. Food in the bar was from a small but delightful menu, service was friendly but slow due to staff being trained. We elected to have a drink in the lounge area after eating, which was pleasant. Music was put for us and our drinks refreshed, but it was a bit odd that a little later a member of staff came round and turned off the lights while we were drinking. Breakfast was a very good self service continental buffet, even coffee and toast was self service. However £12 per head seemed very pricy. I do appreciate that times are very hard in hospitality right now, and having stayed in four hotels over the preceding week with hugely varied experiences I have seen a range of experience. I have to say that the Crown is not earning its four stars right now, but am sure it will get itself together before long.

Hotel was clean so no issues there. However my door handle was broken so I could only lock my room from the outside, meaning I couldn’t leave my stuff in the room to go and use pool etc. I reported this on check out. Though the room was clean and ok it was a little bit cell like so I probably wouldn’t choose to stay again. I think the leisure facilities must be v popular with locals as there were a lot of people going in in sportswear. This resulted in the car park being completely rammed. I managed to get my car into a space after lots of to and fro, and ended up guiding another driver into an equally tight space. This was also off putting.

Booked at relatively short notice as an overnight stopover. Our room was in a separate building adjacent to the main hotel. Room appeared relatively newly renovated and was spotless, furnished to a high standard and very comfortable. Large bathroom with double shower felt luxurious. Despite hotel being very busy and there being some staff shortages service was always friendly and enthusiastic. Slight delay checking in due to queue but entirely understandable in the current climate and no hardship for us. Dinner in bar was very good and reasonably priced. Covid precautions were in place and adhered to by all staff. Continental breakfast only when we stayed due to chef staff absence but all explained on check in so again completely understandable and the breakfast provided was plentiful and tasty. Didn’t use leisure facilities. Would definitely stay again

I am aware that in the trying conditions where staff are low and things aren’t operating in a way that makes this easy at all for staff. BUT, the room was nothing like the pictures, it looked like it hadn’t been updated in 30 years, the toilet paper holder was coming off the wall along with a ancient shower in which my partner had to bend down to get under. There was a massive lack of plugs for anything, we had one ‘spare’ socket that was only available if we took the TV out. Furniture was missing drawers and just overall dated. But linen was clean and bed was comfortable. The major drawer back was there was a wedding reception happening right outside our window and music was very loud till it wrapped up about 12:15am. Breakfast was continental as chef was isolating which was fine. But there was lack of basic things like bowls, butter and juice. Again lack of staff was unavoidable. Dinner was a very limited menu as I’m guessing same chef was isolating. I can understand all the problems with lack of staff, that’s fine and unavoidable but this should be reflected in the room price. I’m not massively happy it cost us more than any other place on our trip.
