Van der Valk Hotel Maastricht

The hotel was very comfortable and the rooms were large and were quite nice. Due to Covid, we needed to schedule use of the pool area. The pool and saunas were a plus to our stay. The gym however was not cleaned regularly so the machines looked dirty and the room was hot. If there was air conditioning it did not work. Breakfast was excellent and overall the food was good. However, service was not very good and food service was not coordinated. For example, our children's food was served after ours, which is unusual and something we have not really experienced ever.... and that says something because we travel a lot and have lived on a couple of different continents. Room service messed up our order ("lost" it) and of course those with children can imagine the types of fallout from late dinners due to mistakes in room service. Again, that made for an unpleasant experience. However despite those gaffes, we would stay here again.

I WILL FIND OUT NEXT YEAR WHEN WE WILL BE ABLE TO GO TO EUROPE!

Good hotel very conscious about social distancing

The design of the hotel is a bit kitsch but likeable. The rooms are spacious, the bathrooms are very nice with comfortable baths (in the deluxe room at least). The spa and pool are very nice with views outdoors from the sauna and pool. On the downside the pillows on the beds are too high (for me). I found another pillow in the cupboard and it was also too high. There are numerous decorative cushions but no selection of sleeping pillows. I had to roll up a towel instead of the high pillow in order to get some comfort.

The property is right of the motorway, not really walkable to the city center because of the major roads. The hotel does offer a shuttle into the city, but it only runs during the day. The hotel is currently under renovation. Renovated rooms are nice and clean, but sections under construction are exposed. The hotel bills itself as a spa, but the spa services are very limited. Additionally, the spa area has glass walls that are not fully sealed, and it’s quite noisy. Spa staff was young and generally lacked experience. When large groups were load in the pool or spa areas, no staff addressed this, making my treatments less than relaxing. Additionally, rooms are not quiet. There was A LOT of noise in the hallway through the night. Again, no staff addressed this. One night people were running down one hall knocking on doors and yelling. Rooms over the hotel entrance are loud. I would not recommend this hotel for a peaceful weekend getaway.

Very nice bedroom with a very good bed and super shower. Only some construction going on in the hotel. Free shuttle service to the city was nice too.

Clean, functional, stylish, friendly and helpful staff

Everyone from Reception through to Restaurant and Bar were really nice, Professional and helpful. The only downside was that the builders were in reconstructing a number of rooms, but they were quite. This is absolutely necessary to keep the hotel in great shape. Not all staff had English, but that’s my problem for not having Dutch, not theirs

Old style hotel with one single redeeming quality: it is in the middle of town. No AC, no parking, noisy, lousy/old bathroom with not enough towels. Street/tourist noise is horrendous and with the windows open (no ac remember) forget about catching some sleep.
