We had an amazing stay at The Evelyn. The service is great, when asking them about something they answered immediately. The location was really good, very close to Madison Square Park, shopping and restaurants. The rooms were very clean and comfortable to stay at. I would highly recommend staying at The Evelyn and I am differently going to stay here again!

They put me in a hellish second-floor room initially, with a sliver of a window facing a stack of junk and decaying cardboard boxes in an air shaft, no natural light in the room or the bathroom. Upon request they moved me to something less like a prison cell, but with no enthusiasm or apology. The room was cramped but clean. The whole property is old, and they’ve done reasonably well in making you feel you’re in a historic throwback (like something from a ‘30s gangster movie maybe), with the Art Deco bar as a highlight. The bar staff was great and the housekeepers seemed very sweet. Overall the property is tired though, and unless you’re obsessed with old-fashioned charm you can do better for the price.

The Evelyn is conveniently located on the same street as our daughter's apartment, so we've stayed before. It's a nice boutique hotel. The rooms are a bit tight, but most NYC hotels are. It would be nice to have a bit more room in the bathroom, too. But, the hotel has charm, and they include a very light breakfast from their lobby bakery/shop, which is nice.

When I arrived, despite the fact my reservation was made a confirmed hours earlier, I was told (after flying for 5 1/2 hrs) that I needed to wait until the hotel system synced with Hotels.com. I offered to show my confirmation email but wasn’t good enough. I waited at least 20 mins just to check into my room.

We did NOT enjoy our stay and I plan to write a thorough review for Trip Adviser. The fantastic staff is the only thing that works at the Evelyn. Our room - 308 - was the size of a small closet - no windows (only behind a curtain to the air shaft), no real closet space, no place to open or place a suitcase (we travel very light) and a broken chair that was replaced by a second less broken chair. The high pitched whistling water pipes woke us every time someone took a shower. The light fixtures over the bed were perilously wobbly and the bathroom could barely accommodate one thin person (we are both thin, by the way). The free breakfast was misrepresented and was not acceptable. Have you eaten that bacon and egg thing that resembles a hockey puck? The small fruit yoghurt is also not a breakfast. Coffee was good! We asked to be moved to a bigger room, but were told that this one was for the 'class' we reserved. Also, not a good answer. So, what more can I say other then we will never recommend this hotel and will never return to it. Really unfortunate as the location is perfect.

Excellent hotel, very well located, I was surprised to hear they don’t make up your rooms daily unless you explicitly ask for it but I guess it may be due to Covid?? Also, the bar and the restaurant were closed unfortunately, but they looked beautiful!! Will stay there again for sure!

Overall a great stay. The value for what we received was the best. The queen rooms are its bitsy but comfortable, clean and refurbished. The common space is a little dark for my liking but also comfortable and clean. I liked the front desk staff, they were great, the restaurant staff was good. Everyone tried to make us as comfortable as they could. Covid is still a thing so travel is a bit of a hassle; for everyone, staff and guests alike. I loved the location. I prefer the quieter parts of town, we walked to the highline and Bryant park. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance. The only negative is that the walls are SUPER thin. It’s as if they put up a piece if plywood and called it a private room. I’m talking you can hear EVERYTHING your neighbor does. That being said, it didn’t hinder our good time.

Beautiful hotel and friendly staff in a great, convenient location. My only issue was that I found the room had some functional annoyances as I was getting ready for my event. (These wouldn't be reasons not to come back) 1. There was no clock - a few times as I was doing my hair & makeup, and when I woke up in the AM, I really missed it. 2. The bathroom layout made it nearly impossible to get ready at the sink as the wall jutted out, eliminating any elbow room. 3. The light in the shower was directly over the showerhead, which made it significantly less effective. 4. Bathroom lighting, in general, was dim. This was really only an issue since I was doing makeup for an event & would have preferred better lighting. There was also no vanity mirror by the desk, which would have been better for makeup anyway. 5. The desk light had no way to be turned on. **Overall, I would recommend this hotel, although a few small changes could make it even better.
