If you take a tent is less stressful, you need to walk 20minutes to another hotel to have facilities that advertised,steam room? non, swimming pool,if it is raining you may get a puddle, Sauna? when you enter in the hotel and meet the grand mum and grand dad, then the son and the daughter, you definitely get hot enough that you don't need sauna. service,there […] is a number left at reception if they can be bothered you may get an answer,but you regret you even bothered to call. We noticed that they want your money but not yourself, If you love hassle I recommend ambleside lodge. Star rating? Only problem was internet access. The owners tried to rectify and were very helpful but may be an issueof you areon business. The hotel is very nice and good selections for breakfast.

I'd recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again. The location is excellent - a couple of mins walk outside the centre of Ambleside, but set back from the road so it's quiet. The hotel is a bit dated in terms of decor but clean. We had a room which had a jacuzzi which was great but a bit small (think of a normal size bath with a few jets!). […] Breakfast in the morning was good and staff very friendly. We paid in advance to stay here 3 nights and left after 2. I never usually complain and have only gave good reviews as i have only ever experienced excellent service in the lakes until now. The rooms were freezing cold and the heating only went on for a couple of hours at tea time each day. The towels were not changed even though the were wet and we […] had no way of drying them without any heating. Breakfast was disappointing, small breakfast rationed to one cup of cold coffee and one small orange juice. The stay was ruined with the impression that the staff were penny pinching where ever they could to save money. The light in the room never worked and we had to rely on dim lighting via lamps. It was never fixed as promised. The hotel advertises free use of sauna, pool, gym etc for nearby spa. However, they don't tell you that they don't have enough passes for all of the guests! We paid £90 per night to stay here for 3 nights and left after 2 as we could no longer stand the cold in the rooms. We didn't even stick around to ask for a refund for our last night. I stopped here with my partner for a short break, we arrived late on Friday but Mike was most accommodating, room was spacious and clean very comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful, the only negative was breakfast only being 0830 - 0900 which meant no lazy lay in. As explained by other reviewers, an empty reception with a notice advising customers to ring an external number. The voice on the other end gave directions to the room and told us where to find the key. Unfortunately the room was not the superior room (four poster bed) as booked and paid for, but a plain bedroom with an ordinary double bed and a very […] cold bathroom. I returned to the phone on the desk to check that we'd gone to the correct room and was told that I had and that the room hadn't had a four poster bed for over 12 months! No mention of a refund. The room was clean but bland. The staff at breakfast were friendly. The breakfast was what you would expect from a B&B. I would advise others to check on the booking before travelling. There are many other nice hotels in the Lake District for the price you would pay here for a 'superior room'. Læs mere

We were greeted by a really friendly hotel owner and the room was really spacious. Did get a bit cold during the night and no power on the shower. Might have been better to invest in a power shower than a jacuzzi bath.I would recommend getting in early and going to the leisure club as it was a nice free addition to the stay. All in all a very nice bed and breakfast boarding house, clean and very accommodating staff. Ideal location for the centre of Ambleside within walking distance of all amenities.

Now at home after leaving the hotel a day early, got there our room key was left on the desk with a note with our name and room number on it, no one around. Room very basic. The hotel appeared to let pets in the bedrooms with guest, we did not know this at the time of booking and our room smelt a little. Breakfast very tight 8.30am-9.00am waited 30 […] minutes for our breakfast, we got forgot about I think due to a guest kicking off about not being allowed to have their dog in the breakfast room whislt having breakfast with other guests !!!!. I would imagine if you want to stay in a Hotel with your pet dog then it may be fine but would agree with previous review rooms very very basic, no service, our room number 7 not very clean and no jacuzzi as booked and paid for. The setting of the hotel was beautiful but thats where anything good about it ended. Nobody there to greet us, no communal space, unhelpful manager, shabby old fashioned room ......... the list goes on and on. Very expensive too. Would not recommend this hotel.

The immediate friendliness and professionalism of the hotel's owners was apparent the moment I arrived with my needs and requirments dealt with, within minutes. I was settled in and comfortable before I knew it. Much appreciated, especially the generously delivered local knowledge about the town of Ambleside itself.

It was an old mansion that had been converted to a B & B which was located in its own beautiful garden setting with ample parking for all residents.

Having stayed in many hotels in the UK and abroad , i would rate this hotel in my top 5, not the biggest , and not because of having a swimming pool etc , but purely on Cleanliness , comfort and most of all the warm and friendly service we enjoyed from all the staff at the Hotel. The large 4 poster bedroom was lovely and i was impressed by the quality […] of a sports massage offered as an additional service. My body normally feels very tired and i have restricted movement in the way i walk. After the sports massage , i felt as if i could run around , which i have not felt like doing for many years. 10 out of 10 , If i did live closer to the hotel, i would go back on a regular basis. When we arrived reception was empty, we had to ring a landline number to contact staff. The phone went straight to voicemail. Eventually a staff member told us the boss was too busy to see us, and we had to try again. We did and eventually spoke to the owner, we think, who told us where our key was. Not an impressive start! The location was ideal for ambleside amenities and the large car park was good. The room looked like an upmarket care home with green velour wing back chairs and a terrible green carpet, not what I was expecting at all. I was deeply disappointed with the room and the breakfast was awful, we had a human hair in the full English, the eggs were over done too. Very, very tired decor throughout. Four poster bed in room 20 had a very cheap mattress and cigarette burns in the canopy. The furniture was dreadful especially the two leatherette sofas. The bathroom was clean but very dated and the whirlpool bath knobs were glued in place. The worlds oldest CRT tv with poor reception. V ordinary breakfast in a […] hot, dim, crowded basement. The staff where great friendly reception with good advice. The general condition of the lodge was not bad. Room was ok but a bit dated, bathroom was functional but not quite what we expected. There are no reception rooms within the lodge and breakfast is served in the cellar, not a problem as its really good food, but it's nice to look out at the scenery […] . Not sure where the spa was. The hotel is well located, easy walk of around 500m to the town, lovely grounds. Value for money, it's in keeping with the prices elsewhere in the area, so while it has points against so will others, nowhere is perfect but this is a lodge not hotel however still a nice place to stay Læs mere

Had a very enjoyable three night stay in fabulous surroundings. The Ambleside Lodge is a very friendly B&B for a relaxing stay. It is a little dated but extremely clean and comfortable. Would stay there again.

It should be clearly mentioned on the hotels.com website that it is not an hotel but a B&B. Price was however similar to hotel prices. There is no spa facilities as it is mentioned on the website. I was amazed that a hotel of this size (and apparently 4*) had no receptionist, but a phone and phone number to call someone to come down to reception. Room was very basic, tv was old with very few channels in no order and bed was a cheap, metal framed bed. Once heating went off the room was extremely cold, although was on til quite late. NO HOT WATER […] at 8am when I wanted a shower! Breakfast was lovely and the lady serving breakfast was very polite.
