Great location, friendly staff. As with other "eco-hotels" in the area, they turn off all the power at night (it goes down randomly as well when the generators stop) and there are no outlets in the rooms so bring a flashlight. I have stayed in tulum hotels many times in the past 5 years and am very comfortable with rustic living. However, I was very disappointed in the service, comfortability of Retiro Maya. It was WAY overpriced for the condition of the hotel and falsely advertises free breakfast and wifi. In fact, we asked for coffee at the restaurant in the morning thinking […] it was free, only to be charged on our checkout day. The beach is pristine, the ocean is gorgeous. The staff was friendly and the yoga space was lovely. The cabanas don't have power outlets to plug in electronics, so you have to use those in the restaurant. The food was okay, but not great and very expensive just like all of the food on the beach. The light in the room wasn't very bright, so reading at night was somewhat hard, and there wasn't a comfortable place to read other than hiding under the mosquito net on the bed because anywhere else the bugs would get us. There is generally no hot water, although it was warm a couple of times, it was chilly to shower at night with the wind coming through. We were a few cabanas back from the ocean, and it was very hot at night even with the fan blowing on us. An uncomfortable sleep with the heat and the bugs. The beds were okay, but my boyfriend's feet were hanging off and he's not all that tall - anyone close to 6 feet would be a bit cramped. Travelers need to know that electricity availability will be minimal--this is a rustic experience. But the quiet, beauty and comfort makes it a wonderful place to visit. We hope to return many times. You should also bring your own soap and shampoo. The tap water is safe to drink but tastes salty so you'll probably want to stock up at the grocery store in town. As always, we brought many more clothes than we needed, since we spent nearly every day in our bathing suits. Pack lightly--you'll be glad you did. Für Backpackers das passende, ansonsten legt lieber ein paar Euro mehr darauf und gönnt euch etwas mehr "Luxus" !!! 100 Meter rauf und runter ist der Strand genauso schön !!!
