Grand Hotel & Suites - Gurnee

We just needed a place to sleep before shopping at Gurnee Mills - and we got that. Nothing more or less. It's an OK budget hotel.

It was awesome, I went with 2 of my guys and it was really chill we watch tv and had fun.... It was very clean and the people were niceee.. Yeah the pool was small but w.e we had fun... I think if your young and ready to have fun, or old waiting to relax, or just on vocation its a perfect placee... YESSSSSS I RECOMMENd

Very basic. Not the most romantic rooms or amenities.

I reserved two rooms for myself and two brothers since we were in town for a family funeral. The staff was fairly courteous and helpful and the overall cleanliness and comfort of the room was acceptable - but we gave mixed reviews on the memory foam mattresses. We should note that the toilet in one room had a broken flapper causing the toilet to continue […] running. However, we are all pretty handy and chipped in to do a temporary fix on it ourselves. We could easily see where this hotel could be popular with families with kids during the regular Six Flags season. The treatment and paintings on the first floor hallway were in themselves very entertaining. So during the season for families we would highly recommend this hotel. When we arrrived we were told that we would be required to pay a $40 cash deposit because the hotel has a non-smoking policy.This was not mentioned to me until I got to the hotel. The room has a air conditioner with no knob controls,We were not told about the wall controls until we were checking out. The hotel has a noise policy in which a warning […] would be given twice before evection on the third time.My wife and I would awakened by a phone call by the office worker for noise made by someone elses' children. I was informed that I was being warned about noise,when I informed the worker that everyone in the room was sleeping he sheepishly apologized. In all fairness,the room was clean and the location was good.Hotels.com needs to warn people about the $40 cash deposit so that they are not blindsided like we were. Læs mere

I was very happy with my decision to stay at Grand Hotel & Suites when visiting "Fright Fest" at Six Flags Great America. I chose the hotel based on price & the good reviews left by others who had stayed there. I was not disappointed at all. The location was fantastic & the memory foam beds were very comfortable. We stay at the hotel and walk to 6 flags. It is a short walk. Saves us money on parking. The hotel is affordable. Wouldn't expect such a clean hotel with great staff to be so affordable.

Don't let appearances full you. The hotel was really nice and roomy. The staff was excellant. They were very friendly. Could walk to Six Flags theme park. Very convenient to a variety of food places. Pleasantly surprised and will be returning. J. Raley Louisville Ky.

The service was great! The staff was friendly. The only thing I didn't like about the hotel was just based on appearance. That may not be of any importance, but it looked runned down and there were a few weirdo, homely people staying there. Our hotel room in particular was just very strange. A long hallway to the entrance of the room which spreaded […] out to the bedroom itself, one small square...it felt like it was a waste of space and wasn't as roomy as we'd liked it to be. But it was a place to sleep, that was all that mattered. I would have liked a better room with more space, but can't complain now. Our hotel was close to other hotels where my other family stayed so it was very convenient to pick everyone up, to go to the nearby restaurants, and my relatives home who lives 5min away from the main street. We spent the weekend getting our fill of adventure and excitement while at Six Flags and enjoyed the convenience of the Grand Hotel. The rooms were very clean and the themed first floor was a pleasant surprise. Highly recommended!

I located this hotel the morning we were leaving for Great America and I am so glad I found it! Customer service was excellent! I liked how friendly and personable the employees were, the price was easily affordable, my children loved the 1st floor hallway! They want to do their bedroom that way! And our room was excellent. I loved the memory foam mattress […] as I have a bad back, I loved the heated bathroom and the shower was great. I have no complaints and have told my friends and plan on coming there again! We always stay at The Grand when visiting 6 Flags! Nice, quiet, excellent mattresses, has everything we need & can walk to 6 Flags!

Well when I first got to the hotel, my first impression of the outside was cool, it looked up to date. Then the inside decor was a bit shabby and needed to be upgraded to a more modern atmosphere. The 4th of July theme in the front lobby, was a bit too much, it could have been a newer more relaxed theme such as a Sunset in the park. The characters in […] the theme rooms need to be upgraded. Maybe they should hire a more talented artist to paint these cartoon characters because they look like a child drew them and colored them.The hotel its self could have offered more towels, soap, cups and shampoo in the room especially on the fact that we stayed more than a day. We came to the hotel on the strength that it was close to Six Flags Great America, definitely walking distance, and close to lots of restaurants. the hotel offers coupons to Golden Coral(breakfast,$5/person and dinner,$10/person)which is located right behind the hotel. The hotel is close to everything that you might need. If you are a smoker, you should explain to them that you are a heavy smoker so that at the end of your stay, you will get your $40 deposit back. Make sure that YOU don't put any smoking utensils, (For example a beer bottle with a cigarette butt in it.) anywhere in the room so that wont have an excuse to not give you your deposit back and if you so happen to have a cigarette in the room make sure to dispose of it properly cause they will look 4 smoking stuff. I would definitely stay at this hotel again if I was to go to the theme park again. The staff were happy and helpful and the pool stayed open as late as 1am when it should have closed at 11pm so that was cool, I got to swim an extra length of time. I really think they should upgrade the pool to go as deep as 6feet b/c it is only 4feet deep. Perfect for children or adults who just want to cool off and relax. It was okay because it served our purpose for our grandchildren.

My daughter loved the way the hotel wasdecorated and I liked its location. You get what you pay for - definitely not a 4 star hotel.... but on a budget and a short stay it was fine. Stayed at this place among other well known hotels and was pleasantly surprised. Not a top notch place but good for the money. The hotel staff were very nice and cooperative. Their wifi service has to be upgraded though. Nice size fridge and microwave in the room. Would suggest a small coffee maker be added. Clean and roomy.

Thought hotel/room was clean. Asked for a handicap room upon arrival to accomidate my son, staff was very helpful in changing my room. I thought it strange for the rate of the room to not have coffee maker and had to go to the lobby for coffee and find out that they did not serve contiental breakfast. The water did not run smoothly on the sink. The management should have a better control on the crowd/noise after certain time at night (i.e. after 10 or 11 PM)

The hotel was clean, I can't complain. The only thing I would say could use improvement would be the breakfast, and they should have wifi. Otherwise all the employment was very friendly, and it was a nice stay! Also we had a dog with us and this site(HOTELS.COM) failed to point out the dog must be under 15pds.

Great location and close to Great America and many different food places. The staff of the hotel was very nice and also the hotel was every quite. They also offer parking in the under ground grage for $5.00 a day which I thought was every nice of them. They we also able to answer all our questions and provide towels fast to our room when we called the […] front desk and ask fo some more. -it was a good place to stay and comfortable beds. -downside is that their were to many young people and to much play with elevators. -recommended for young people and just for young people.

THE HOTEL CREW WAS GREAT!!! I felt like i was home the crew went to the gas station to get my wife something to drink just because the vending machine was broken. I stayed one night for the half-marathon in town. It was walking distance to the event site. Blocks from 6 Flags Great America too! The hotel was your basic, but very neat and comfortable stay!

The staf was friendly and courteous. We had a reservation at another local hotel/waterpark fall through and we had a 8 year old daughter that was extremely dissapointed by this. The staff at the Grand Hotel made us feel extremely welcome, they upgraded our room to a theme room to make my daughter happy, supplied us with certificates to a local restaurant […] for a breakfast buffet in the morning and went out of their way to service us. The hotel was clean and well kept. We had a previous experience at this location that was very very bad and we were pleased to see that the problems had been rectified and that the hotel was in immaculate condition. to much drinking going on right at the back door along with smoking smokers in the hall ways .cold coffee willing to make new but always cold no one at desk they were watching T.V. or javeing they called it with the brothers that were staying at the motel. Hotel was clean, all staff was pleasant, lots of restaurants and LOTS of shopping close by as well as Great America (6 Flags Theme Park) during its season. Hotel has theme rooms with jacuzzis for adults and a couple for children but they are on the same floor as the adult rooms.

This hotel was exactly what we were looking for. The first floor decorated in kid paintings and black lights was cool. Our room even had an air hockey table in it which was awesome! This hotel is a great value for the money. We went off season when Six Flags is closed but it's really geared towards kids. Our room had an air hockey table in it. The 1st floor has slightly cheesey but endearing murals of super heros that glow in the black light lit hallway and there was a pool if that's something you're looking for. The 2nd and 3rd […] floors were standard issue decorated with Bob Ross knockoff paintings. The room was big with a table, reclining chair, microwave, and fridge. The shower area looked new and so did the framed mirrors. I wasn't a big fan of the pharoah foam mattress but it was ok. If you're there for the amusement park the hotel offers six flag packages. It doesn't have a free breakfast but they sell a meal voucher for the Golden Coral, a buffet style restaurant. For breakfast I think the Avalon is a better choice, it's a left on Grand from the hotel and just after the next stoplight on the right. Læs mere

Overall, the experience was pleasant. We were disappointed that the bathroom was a little dirty. The staff went above and beyond to be friendly and courteous, which you don't find a lot of these days.

On a whim, I decided to take the kids to Gurnee for a few days. We booked this hotel by chance and it was the BEST decision I've ever made. As a single mom with 2 kids, this hotel was exactly what I was looking for. The glow in the dark hallways and the fabulous artwork made this hotel extremely unique. The indoor pool was wonderfully warm. The rooms […] were bigger than expected. (and the air hockey table was a nice added surprise). Everything about this hotel was exciting. The kids did not even want to leave to do any sight seeing. I am definitely planning another trip to Gurnee in the future with the kids... with no plans to do anything at all but hang out. And I have to say that the receptionist was the most FRIENDLY, helpful lady I have met in a looong time. Even with her obvious lack of sleep, she had plenty of smiles to go around. We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It was clean and quite comfortable. We were in Gurnee to go to Six Flags. We walked out the front door and were able to see the Six Flags sign. We left the car in the lot and walked to the park. When we put the Maid Please sign on our door, we got our room cleaned. The only thing that was weird was the hallway […] on the first floor. My family and I have stayed at different hotels in Gurnee when we travel to visit Six Flags-but this is the 1st visit to the Grand Hotel & Suites. I had a question about my reservation & called them & was concerned that I had to leave a message for the reservation department to call me back-but they did call back quickly! The lobby reminds me of a […] private Inn more than it does a Hotel, but the people working at the front desk were VERY kind and my check in was VERY speedy (check out takes a little longer-more on that later) To be able to offer their rooms at a low rate, they do not offer breakfast...they do however offer coupons for discounted breakfast and dinner at the Golden Corral Buffet) Our room (not a suite) was HUGE! We had 2 queen sized beds, 2 tables, a lazy boy recliner, fridge, safe, ceiling fans (which are a big deal to me!!!) and an AIR HOCKEY TABLE! There is the full bathroom with an extra sink outside the bathroom. The beds are very comfy MEMORY FOAM mattresses! The room is very comfortable! They have a pool, but we didnt use it. Check out took a little longer than I would have liked, but I understand it. They require a 40.00 deposit to guarantee that you dont smoke in the room or steal the towels...you get that back at check out...but they need to send someone to the room to verify before giving your deposit back. If having to wait to verify that I didnt break the rules means that great big rooms like these can be rented to me for the low price, then I can wait! We stayed at this hotel due to its location... and it was great! It is a block away from Six Flags! My family and I stayed on a room with two queen size beds and it was a very large room.It felt like we had a suite, not just a hotel room! I also liked that the room had a microwave and a mini-refrigerator. The place is a bit outdated, but for the price […] it is a great value! Also, it was very clean and friendly staff. My only complaint was the memory foam mattress. It was horribly uncomfortable and hard. Everything else was great. Cute little room.

The reason I was in the Gurnee area was to go to six flags great america. This hotel is at a great location and has a great price for where it is located. I would highly recommend this hotel to other people.
