Kort afstand til subway og kun to stop til Manhatten. Roligt kvater med blandet bolig/erhverv og med et par rimelige madsteder. Nemt at komme til/fra JFK med Airtrain og subway. Morgenmad ok med lidt frugt, brød, kaffe m.m. Morgenmadslokalet til fri afbenyttelse dagen igennem (microovn samt gratis kaffe). Hotellet ligger lidt skummelt i et område med værksteder og andet, men det er intet problem. Fine værelser, men man skal bed om dem med udsigt til skylinen over manhatten, da bagsiden er op til et andet hotel og en gård. Fint med morgenmaden på hotellet og det eneste der mangler er bacon og æg samt pandekager, men dem kan man spise på manhatten. Hvis […] man selv eller ens unge medrejsende, går i byen til sent om aftenen/natten, kan man tage en taxa fra central park og til hotellet hvor der sidder folk i receptionen hele natten for ca 25 us dollar. Venlig og imøde kommende personal og rigtig go service, værelse var rumlig, stille og rent, vi spiste ingen morgenmad på hotellet, men der var fine muligheder for det selvom der måske manglede et bord eller to i forhold til antal gæster. Nabolaget ser lidt skummel ud men der var absolut ingen problemer ved at gå gennem området til og fra hotellet og […] subway, heller ikke om aften, min datter og mig gik der ved 23 tiden og det var ganske fint. (vil dog anbefale at tage en taxi efter midnat, men det er mere pga af folk i subway) 200 mtr fra hotel til subway og hvis man tager F line sa er man efter en par stop (ca 6-8 min.) ved 42 st and Bryant, derfra er det en 300 mtr og man står på Times Sq. Eneste ulempe er at der er ingen restaurant eller spisested ved hotellet. Hotellet tilbyder også shuttle service. Vil hel sikker anbefale dette hotel til folk som ikke vil bo på Manhattan. Læs mere

Ok hotel - med mindre værelser. Er fint som sovested, når man ser på New York. Ikke egnet til afslapning på hotelet. Morgenmad ok, men ikke plads nok til alle gæster - nogen tager maden med på værelset i stedet for.

Med 200 meter til undergrund og 5 stops til midt på Manhattan, hvor man står v. 5. avenue / Broadway på 10 min., så er det MEGET fint.

Best towels..I've felt yet..

While the Howard Johnsons Inn in Long island City is easily accessible to Manhattan (2 stops on the F train) and is only 2 blocks from the train station, the surrounding neighborhood is distressed and a bit scary at night. A swarm of hoodlums from the nearby projects always hangout around the subway escalators and I would not recommend this hotel for […] out-of-town tourists. I would suggest guests use taxi if they are to arrive late evening after 8:00PM. The hotel lobby is a bit messy and the front desk is a bit surly. The rooms are small but adequate and the room was clean. On the plus side is the complimentary breakfast, complimentary airport shuttle (to all 3 airports) and the price. Læs mere

I won't mince words, it's pretty much in the projects of Queens LOL. But I'm from NYC so it didn't really bother me. Thing is though, for tourists this is great because its a very short walk to the train and you're literally in Manhattan in 10 minutes. The hotel was clean, the staff guy was helpful. They should tell you ahead of time how to turn the […] shower on though, I nearly broke the handle off! And when I called the front desk asking how to turn it on he said, "Ah, that's our secret! Well..." which tells me I'm not the only one who couldn't figure it out. One thing that did ANNOY ME was when I was sleeping and the dang maid BANGED on my door asking if we were checking out AN HOUR before checkout time! Scared the crap out of my and my friend! That wasn't cool. They really shouldn't knock until AFTER 11. But other than that, I would come back and stay at the hotel. It was clean and you can't beat that price. Læs mere

The hotel was ok, needs some updates, wallpeper was coming off and carpets were very stained. Also, the nighborhood was very scary.

NYC can sometimes be a challenge for visitors when looking for a place to stay. Manhattan is wildly expensive, and you never know what you're going to find in the outer boroughs. Fortunately, this hotel seemed to work out pretty well for us. The location is very convenient, as it is less than a 5 minute walk to the Subway (the F train, which is only […] 2 stops away from Manhattan). The surrounding neighborhood is a mix of businesses, some apartments, and some car repair shops. Despite the gritty look of the neighborhood, we never felt like there was any danger. If you're driving in, be forewarned that parking at the hotel is extremely limited. When we got there, all the spaces were filled, and all we could do was park on the street. The street is pretty well parked in most times during the day due to the nearby businesses, but we found a space on the street. The spaces at the hotel are first come, first served--we lucked out and got one about an hour after check-in when one opened up--I ran out and moved my car to it (the parking is free, so when you find a space, put your car there and don't move it! The room was small-ish, but the size was really no problem. It was well appointed, with a new bed and new TV. The bathroom is basic but nicely outfitted. There was a basic, but nice-to-have continental breakfast in the morning (which got very, very busy while we were there). Now, for the not so great... The cover on our bed was a bit dirty, so we didn't use it, of course. We left a note and the next day, it was changed. Also, the bathroom surfaces were not as clean as they should be--taking a damp paper towel across the sink yielded a bit of grime. Not good. Some better cleaning would have made the stay a little better. Also, the pillows on the bed are little square ones, and are pretty thin, so if you require extra neck support (as I do), you may be disappointed by this. We were given a handicap room, and unfortunately that meant absolutely no counter space inside the bathroom. So we had absolutely nowhere to place our toiletries or even clothing since the toilet had no lid. Ended up pulling the office chair into the bathroom to use it for our counter/shelf space. Also, the night clerk forgot to give us back our credit […] card and photo ID. We did not realize it till the next day while sightseeing, and that left us with many hours of worry. Moreover, the hotel staff took a long time to figure out what happened, and it was not till we asked to get a police report that they finally came up with the cards. This place is not worth it. Service was extremely poor. The day I came the guy at the front desk didn't even bother looking up to address me. He ask what I wanted and I asked if we could check in early. Still not looking at me, he just told me check-in is at 3pm. Such poor manners. He was not very professional or courteous to guests. When I came back […] later that night to check-in he was still there and busy channel surfing for cartoon network or something like that as I stood at the front desk. I had to wait for him to finish looking for his TV station before he addressed me. I informed him that I had reservations and that I was checking-in. So he took my ID and credit card, and apparently I didn't find out until the next morning that he confused me for another reservation booked by a woman with the same last name. Serious, he had my ID card so it wouldn't have been hard to verify the reservation. Good - very good rate - 1/3 of the going rate of hotels on Manhattan - close to subway - literally 10 min away from TimeSquare. - indoor parking and euro breakfast both included with the stay. - ideal for budget trip - Late check-in at no extra charge Not So Good - location in an industrial area - a bit run down and some welfare housing - looks unsafe […] at first glance - but we have not witnessed any incidents. This hotel was just across the river from Manhattan and very near the Subway. It isn't really possible to walk to Manhattan, but if you are ok taking the subway this is a fantastic deal! The continental breakfast was great as well, and all the staff were friendly and helpful!

We personally did not have any problems but potential guests should be aware that the neighborhood of the hotel is not very nice. The hotel is right next to the Queensbridge projects. The hotel itself was ok for a 2-star.

While the surrounding neighborhood looks rough, we had no problems whatsoever. We never felt threatened or in harm's way. We came and went at all times of the day and night without incident. The subway is less than 2 blocks away and the ride into Manhattan was not bad at all. We had a city view from our room window, which was nice. Overall, our stay […] was very nice. This hotel was barely acceptable. The location was the main drawback. The neighborhood might make one feel uncomfortable. There is no place to walk to except the subway, and only the 7 train comes here. Don't believe you will be able to park at the hotel. There are almost no spaces available. Instead you'll be parking your car on the street, wherever […] you can find a spot. Our car was safe, but even street parking is limited. The room and other amenities were ok, but the location and lack of parking bring this place down. Læs mere

Previous reviews complained about lack of variety of food and lack of space to eat at the continental breakfast. My wife and I found it to be an average continental breakfast, nothing worth complaining about. As far as the space provided, the hotel opened an extra eating area when the main room filled up, so we had room to sit down and eat.

With a location so close to manhattan and cheap rates they will be full regardless of what the hotel looks like or how they treat people. Sadly they've let both lapse to mediocrity. Ok if you need a bed and not much more.

We chose this hotel because of its proximity to Manhattan and the reviews. It may only be 2 stars but it's way better than that. The only really bad thing about it is the surrounding neighborhood - it's ok for daytime walking but we did taxis at night. It was only about $14 from Irving plaza to the hotel my cab, and there's close proximity to subway […] stops for daytime. The hotel was kept clean as are the rooms - a little small but good furnishings, and the hotel staff was incredibly friendly. Overall my time at this hotel was good. My only complaint is concierge. I wanted to book a day trip to Washington DC but the man at the concierge desk had no idea how to book it for me and asked me to come back later when his supervisor was there. He wasn't there that night, so when I tried to book it again with another person at concierge, the trip […] was booked up so I was very disappointed. And I don't know who they use for their shuttle service but the driver I had was a lunatic and got road rage and called another driver a very derrogotive name. It was very unprofessional. Super close to the subway!! A great location for anyone looking for a cheaper way to get in to manhattan with a quick 10min subway ride.

Close to subway, very friendly and helpful staff, nice room and clean. We wanted to see if staying in Long Island City was just as good as staying in Manhattan at a lower room price and the results were yes! Nice hotel, thanks!

First time we've stayed outside Manhattan and we found this hotel at a good price. It was clean, nice and with friendly staff. Surrounding area not so nice thought, but close to subway so it was not major problem. Feels more like a 3 star hotel than 2 as indicated.

My girlfriend and I initially had some reservations about staying outside of Manhattan for our one week holiday - we thought that being in the centre of the action would be much better... But compare the price of this hotel with even the cheapest in Manhattan and you'll see why we took a chance with it! You save a huge a mount of money! And it was […] a worthwhile gamble. The hotel was well-staffed, clean and only a few minutes (literally) from a subway station. Our room was a good size with effective AC and a decent TV. Location: There are some reviews stating that the neighbourhood feels unsafe. We felt perfectly safe walking back from the subway station past 11pm (and once at 4am to catch our return flight). It's not in the middle of the NY action but it doesn't feel threatening. It's also not terribly attractive (signs of industry, big housing blocks and old and a few scruffy businesses), but we didn't care about that at all. The subway ride to Rockefeller Centre (common start to a touristy day out) took about 20 mins and was very cheap. Trains run 24 hours and frequently. There are probably places you could stay on Manhattan that are actually further away from the action! Hotel: Very satisfied with pretty much all aspects. Only one minor gripe: the wireless internet was not functioning properly when we were staying (management were aware of this and signs were on display apologising). The inclusive breakfast was fairly basic (bagels, cereal, croissants, donuts, fruit, coffee) but was fine for us. Overall: The Howard Johnson Inn Long Island City made our stay a fantastic one. I had some reservation about the location and the fact that the hotel had only a 2 star rating...how wrong I was! The rooms were adequate, the beds were comfortable, and the continental breakfast was very good. I was also happy to have FREE, secure parking. If you have to go to NYC, this is the place to get a real bargain!

The hotel was within minute walk to 21 Queensbridge station which is only 3 stops away from 5th avenue. For the price we paid it was great location and a fantastic hotel. Breakfast was pretty plain with only cereal, bagels, donuts and croissants but the tea/ coffee machine is on ALL day so you can have many as you wish throughout the day which is a […] plus. Also the cereal is out with a fridge constantly with Milk inside so anytime you’re hungry there is something for you. Also microwave is in the breakfast area which again can be used anytime you wish. Would defiantly recommend and if I go back to New York will 100% go back to that hotel. Wi-Fi is good but the only downside may be the gym. Only 3 machines which all cardio based and one wasn’t working but the gym is only a bonus so can’t complain. Finally the room itself was very standard double room with a king size bed. Got everything you can possibly need including cable TV, iron and ironing board. LOVED the shower, got great power which I find rare in hotels recently. The en-suite was one of the best I came across. The view from my room was fantastic with a view of Manhattan and the empire state building, looks beautiful at night. Staffs were very friendly and always willing to help out if needed. They even let us stay a little extra passed check out time with no complaining as we weren’t ready to leave. They gave us hour over the time stated which was very nice of them. To conclude, if you are planning to go to Manhattan and don’t want the extreme Manhattan hotel prices, then stay here. I had to take two trains to get to work while staying here and the staff was very helpful. I became relaxed with them and the location and have decided to stay there again on my next trip to NYC. It is good to know people and feel good about where you are staying.

Overall the hotel was nice. The room was spacious and clean. Great shower! View would have been better on the higher floors - the area immediatelysurrounding the hotel is industrial, but the Manhattan skyline and Queensborrough bridge would be very well in sight from higher up. The top floors were being renovated during my stay and the hotel and workers […] were conscience enough to halt work before 9 pm. Those not accustomed to urban lifestyles may not feel comfortable walking around after dark, but we did not encounter any problems with the locals. Subway is less than a block away and an easy walk. The hotel offers a take-out menu from a few restaurants for late night snacks - the price is a little steep- there was also a small restaurant with a 24-hour walk up window around the corner. The hotel's continental breakfast has the expected fare: cereal/bagel/croissant/OJ/coffee.
