The Artist Cottage - Volcano

The town of Volcano is very remote. It was a real pleasure to find a place where everything is provided (the fridge is full).The house is full of fresh flowers, fresh fruits and anything you will ever need for your hiking - rain coats, flashlights etc. We highly reccommend it.

We only stayed a night, but I think this place deserves at least a week. Bob was so welcoming, the cottage is homely and simply charming. Volcano Village is small, and the entire area is difficult to do without at least some mode of transport, but the cottage is easy cycling distance to the N.P. while feeling a hundred years away. The only negative […] is that the spa is a little close to Bob and Bonnie's place (down the back of the cottage), which, if you're a little self-conscious, might be a barrier to using it. This is a great place to stay. A very quaint cottage that was exceptionally clean, nicely decorated and stocked with virtually anything we could have possilbly forgotton to bring with us, including unbrellas (which you really need on this side of the island!) and flashlights. Bob and Bonnie have thoughts of literally everything to make our stay at the Artist Cottage wonderful and pleasant. soft towels, stocked fridge, freezer, and cabinets with goodies, plenty of toiletries. they are wonderful and the location is just five minutes from the Volcano. It is an understatement to say that we were very pleasantly syrprised with our experience in the Artist Cottage. We expected some relatively spartan B & B; after all, it is located in the middle of the rainforest just a few miles from Volcano National Park. What we found was a spacious, charming, super clean and comfortable home stocked with every conceivable […] amenity. It was as if a few people got together and brainstormed every possible need that travelers could have. From food to drink to music to art to a gas fireplace to a hot tub in the middle of the woods, the Artist Cottage has it all. Bob and Bonnie are solicitous and personable hosts and it all added up to a great experience, especially since we were staying in Kailua-Kona and one day could never suffice to explore the volcano. We could not recommended the Artist Cottage too highly. Our only worry is that, when the word gets out, the schedule will be too packed to accommodate us when we return next year. The cottage is very clean, cosy and quiet. The owner is very nice and dedicated to your comfort. It is located in the rain forrest close to the Volcano Park. The Volcano village is very small, so don't loose your time to find a real foodmarket.

This little one bed-room cottage is old but well maintained. Very clean bathroom, nice bedroom and reasonable kitchen. Plenty of stuff to munch on. My wife and I didn't know what to expect as we are usually not fans of "b & b". We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to learn that we had the whole cottage to ourselves (you do not share the cottage with other renters)! The owners were very friendly while respecting our privacy and the home was well stocked with amenities. They even provided […] a laptop for Internet access! I would definitely recommend this cottage and we had wished we stayed for more than one night. The Artist Cottage was a wonderful experience for us. At first, we didn't know how to check in, but the owner lives right behind the cottage (and used to live in it). They provided lots of food, toiletries, and outerwear that we weren't expecting, and even came over on an unseasonably cool evening to start the fire for us. Our only suggestions to the owners, Bonnie and Bob, would be: 1) to clear away some of the kitchen and bath items so guests have more room for their own things and perhaps remove some of the knick knacks elsewhere that make the place a bit cluttered 2) add a small couch or two comfortable chairs in the living room for sitting; it is handy to have […] the bed there for people traveling with children but there is no comfortable place to sit in front of the fireplace Otherwise, this is a lovely, comfortable place, well-stocked with handy food items. We loved our stay at the Artist Cottage! The house was really cute, and Bob and Bonnie thought of everything! There were many "bonuses" that helped make our trip stress-free, including availability of a laptop with internet so we could look up local info at the last minute, raincoats, lots of snacks, toiletries in case of forgotten items, and washer/dryer. My […] husband and I loved the privacy of having a house all to ourselves. Bonnie came by and introduced herself when we arrived, and briefly gave us a little information about the house and the area. She left her cell number in case we needed anything. Halfway through our four-night stay someone replaced our towels, took out the trash, replaced the fresh fruit and some other food. We also loved the porch area. Unlike the appearance of the house, the interior is clean and much touched by landlady's artistic hands. The bed in the bedroom is properly comfortable, not so soft, not so hard, which really makes good sleep. The bed linen has good quality. The bathroom provides all kinds of amenities. The climate there is cool even in summer, the owner provides warm […] sweaters in the closet and umbrella. They are scrupulous. The bed in the living room is also used as a couch or an extra bed, which needs some upgrade for perfection. There are many food amenities such as cookies, fruits and even wine, even though you should feel like paying for those as a gratuity. I am somewhat disappointed by the fact that the visitors need to cook for themselves because some milk cartons expire so I was not willing to cook. The typical B&B provides breakfast service. The Artist Cottage is a nice break from the beach resorts on the east side of the Big Island. It is cluttered with art, books, and various doo-dads. A very comfortable place to recharge and get some hiking in at Volcano. Umbrella's and flashlights are conveniently provided. Lots of information on local sites. Recommend that you take advantage of the […] kitchen and prepare your own meals rather than go out - save your restaurant trips for the east side or Waimea. Pick up groceries before you get to Volcano, either in Hilo or in one of the grocery stores along the southern hwy. The Artist Cottage is for the laid back and not for those with active teenagers. Volcano park is best appreciated on foot, great hiking and be sure to take flashlights to visit the lava caves, the lava glow at night was ok but not terribly exciting. After two nights at the Cottage we were recharged and ready to head back to Kona for more beach time (Hapuna beach is the best!). Enjoy. Læs mere

On our vacation we wanted to hike in the Volcano National Park and Artist Cottage was just the perfect place to stay. Minutes away from the Park entrance - we did not waist any time. 　コテージということで一軒家はわかっていたのですが、なんと１部屋しかないコテージでレセプションもなく最初チェックインをどこでしたらよいのか迷いました。朝食は食材がかなりの種類と量をキッチンに備えてあり自分で好きなものを調理やシリアルなら牛乳をかけてと好きに利用できます。使った分はいない間にそっと補充されていて不自由はありませんでした。（一部料金に含まれていないもの有）各機材等の使用方法はメモが貼ってあり（英語）これを読めばどうしたらよいかわかります。色々なものがコテージ中に置いてあり、殺風景な一般的な宿泊施設とちがって何か自宅にいるような気分になります。この殺風景とごちゃごちゃの中間をほどよいバランスでアレンジしているのがとても感心させられました。人によって感想は違うと思いますが、うちの子供 […] も非常に気に入っていていました。ちょっと違う宿泊体験をしてみたい方におすすめです。なお、一点難点があるとすればお風呂のお湯をたくさん使うと途中でかなりぬるくなってしまうことです。バスタブに熱いお湯をためて体をつけたい時はキッチンでお湯を沸かして足すなど工夫が必要です。 Læs mere
