A wonderful little place, with lots of charme, the nicest staff, the sweetest owners and the most relaxing part of the beach. We were very satisfied and will definitely recommend it.

I would not recommend The Twisted Palms, despite it being on one of the world’s most perfect beaches. Almost all of the beach huts are actually up a steep hill the other side of a muddy road which are reached by a steep set of concrete steps, which are fairly lethal on the way down if they are wet. There was a huge tropical downpour on the one night […] I was there and the roof of my hut leaked, dripping water directly through the mosquito net onto the pillows and bed. When I mentioned it to the owners they shrugged their shoulders and did not seem alarmed. I know the charm of the place is its simplicity, but I don’t think it is overly fussy or bourgeois to expect a hotel to provide a roof over one’s head. The hotel is also subject to regular power cuts, which effectively stop all water supplies, meaning that a bucket of water has to be kept in the bathroom in the event of an outage. I would also mention the lighting both in the rooms and the restaurant, which was so poor it was almost impossible to read anywhere after dark. It may tell you a little about their attitude that the only viable place was just beneath the till. In addition, between packing at my last hotel and leaving the Twisted Palms, almost certainly en route between the two, I had money stolen. Once again I found the attitude of the owners to be disturbingly callous. The only practical assistance being to allow me to pay for the taxi they had booked my by credit card. Læs mere

A VERY relaxing stay at a part of this long beach that is quiet and largely devoid of annoyances often experienced on beaches in East Africa. The restaurant is usually superb with a menu that changes every day. The staff and the Italian managers of the place are professional and personable. Just wonderful. Visitors should note that this place is within […] a short distance of a number of other places on this strip of beach so even if there are no rooms available, going to its restaurant at least is worth the effort. Fantastic place to stay, not the sterile 5 star resort many stay at but a true paradise in i east Zanzibar beach region.Owners and staff were fantastic and most helpful, food great even for a vegetarian like me. Please stay here if you want to relax and experience true perfection in tranquility,hospitality and price.

Laura and Renato have created a superb, back to basics beach lodge which also appeases my eco-tourism yearnings. Their description is honest and accurate, so if you want a simple no-frills beach holiday right on a paradise beach, this is the perfect place. The rooms are right on the beach - we didn't need to wear shoes, except for leaving the lodge, […] all week. The rooms are beautifully rustic and traditional, with mosquito nets (rooms were sprayed in the evening too). Nothing in Africa is built to perfection, but that is the charm. Very comfortable beds, furniture mostly made out of rough wood (this is the 'Twisted' Palms). Bathroom basic and functional. The restaurant serves simple but excellent and tasty food, usually fresh from the locals who fish directly off the beach. The Zanzibarians are lovely people, very friendly, but poor in comparison to the lodgers, so tip! The lodge is nominally guarded by some Maasai in traditional dress, but in reality there is little risk. The Maasai usually end up playing football on the beach in the evening, in lieu of anything much better to do. Go to see the Colobus monkeys in the Jozani forest - they are fantastic. The snorkeling and SCUBA is excellent too, but I would go on an organised trip to a lagoon, where the waters are deep around the reef and go at a time of day so that the tide doesn't create a strong current. Don't go to an up-market hotel, Twisted Palms is far, far better and you will feel more in touch with Zanzibar :-) Læs mere

petit hôtel sur la côte est de Zanzibar, très calme, les pieds dans l'eau (chambres sur plage); Les hôtes (Paula et Renato) d'origine italienne se plient en 4 pour vous satisfaire. confort très simple (pas de clim), mais chambres spacieuses.. Nous étions avec nos 3 enfants (de 11 à 19 ans) et c'est le type d'établissement authentique que nous recherchions..séjour […] fin février, temps superbe, plage quasiment déserte. Le paysage devant le restaurant les pieds dans l'eau est magnifique. L'hôtel propose des excursions à des prix très corrects avec l'avantage d'être en tout petit groupe. Vistelsen på Twisted Palms var det inget fel på, men alldeles för lugnt och långt från liv för vår smak. Vi bodde i en beach bungalow ungefär 50 meter från vattenbrynet & 30 meter från restaurangen där en klassisk "semesterfrukost" (ägg, toast eller annat vitt bröd, frukt, juice kaffe/te) serverades på morgonen. Vi fick god hjälp med diverse taxiresor […] och tips om hotell när vi skulle resa vidare på Zanibar. Læs mere

Ottima esperienza al Twisted Palms in quanto ho trovato quello che cercavo: tranquillità e relax assoluto sia di giorno che di sera, bungalow proprio sulla spiaggia, cucina di qualità, spiaggia silenziosa e non affollata di turisti (il primo giorno ho passeggiato per quasi 2 Km. incontrando una sola persona !). Twisted Palms si presenta come un lodge fuori dai modelli stucchevoli dei centri vacanza e di molti hotel, con una cucina di livello elevato, una collocazione deliziosa, del personale assolutamente gradevole e rispettoso delle distanze, non ha connessione WiFi, la corrente e l'acqua a volte (rare) mancano, isolato su una spiaggia bianca abbagliante […] di diversi chilometri. Abbiamo incontrato pochi turisti e molti locali. Il flusso delle maree, all'interno della barriera corallina, crea giochi di luce unici e continua a cambiare lo scenario del mare che si popola di pescatori e coltivatori di alghe, a piedi e in barca. Non ci sono ombrelloni, ma palme e vegetazione che offre riparo dal sole. Ventilato. Da sconsigliare a chi vuole musica, folle e stordimento, non può staccare e vuole animatori. Raccomandato caldamente a chi vuole stare in pace, staccare, provare a muoversi con tempi laschi e desidera mangiare bene. Læs mere

Cet hôtel, géré par Laura et Renato, est trés sympa si vous souhaitez passer quelques jours à ne rien faire ormis ballades sur la plage. Attention aux marées regulières ...! Le personnel est trés attentionné et à votre écoute. Les alentours ? Pas grand chose que ce soit en sortant de l'hôtel, à droite ou à gauche ....... Vélo, Scooter ou véhicules de […] location obligatoire pour éviter des kms à pied ! L'hôtel vous proposera ces locations et diverses excursions sur l'île. Le restaurant propose une trés bonne cuisine, (aux chandelles) le soir ! Une petite musique de fond aurait été la bien venue pour l'ambiance. À savoir qu'il faut gërer son rythme de vie en fonctions des coupures d'eau et d'électricité courantes ... Pour conclure, nous avons passé 10 jours de repos sympas ! Læs mere

Nessuna sorpresa all'arrivo: l'albergo è veramente estremamente spartano, come viene descritto nel proprio sito dai proprietari Laura e Renato. Le camere, veramente essenziali, sono però davvero a qualche metro dall'acqua, ed il ristorante , addirittura sulla spiaggia. Vi serviranno solo due costumi e qualche tshirt, le scarpe potete lasciarle a casa. […] Potete lasciare a casa anche l'Autan, in 15 giorni mia moglie ed io non abbiamo avuto nemmeno la più piccola puntura di insetti! Non ci sono petulanti bimbi in cerca di caramelle o soldi, ma solo autentici bambini del vicino villaggio di Bwejiu che giocano tra di loro o seguono le mamme che vanno a pescare o a raccogliere le lumachine per i loro pasti. Laura e Renato non vi imporranno nulla, ma, a richiesta, vi potranno organizzare interessanti escursioni.Non dimenticate di portare con voi delle buone letture e le creme solari. Il ristorante, che non è compreso nel prezzo dell'abergo, è aperto dalle 11 del mattino alle 10,30 della sera ed è sicuramente uno dei migliori dell'isola, ma preparatevi ad attendere con calma di essere serviti; ne varrà la pena: si mangia a lume di candela, pochi tavoli, ospiti molto discreti, solo pesce e crostacei rigorosamente pescati la mattina e un prezzo veramente ragionevole. Lo staff, dalla cucina ai manutentori, fino ai guardiani Masai è gentilissimo. Una bella vacanza, fuori dai circuiti convenzionali, su una delle ultime spiagge "quasi intatte" di zanzibar. Læs mere

I was initially in total shock when I checked into the hotel. This was due to the low level of "comfort" as I found it there. It is so very basic, you would not believe it. But after a very short time i realized that this lack of the standard comfort you find in all hotels all over the world made this hotel such a special thing. This is the way one […] should experience Zanzibar. If you want comfort you go to Waikiki, if you go to Zanzibar you want to be one with long white beaches, and to not stand out of the surroundings. Esattamente quello che cercavo, luogo incantevole, romantico, completamente diverso dai soliti villaggi vacanze. Personale cordiale, cibo ottimo servito a lume di candela e cucinato espresso per un numero limitato di persone (non più di 6 tavoli), responsabili italiani, precisi e professionali.
