John Rutledge House Inn - Charleston

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the John Rutledge House Inn! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was great. The history of the Inn is extremely fascinating! Our room was clean, warm and cozy! We loved everything about our stay!!

I knew that I was aiming for "nicer" lodging when I made a reservation here for a special occasion, but the photos on the web don't do full justice to the experience. Every aspect of the service was designed to make the guest feel like a million bucks, and they succeeded. There is an elegant upstairs ballroom where guests can have breakfast or socialize […] before dinner, and free appetizers and even port wine and sherry are provided. Our room was spacious, clean, and well-maintained. The location is within walking distance of the most interesting historical part of Charleston as well as many fine restaurants. Be sure to call ahead to get instructions about parking, as it's not obvious where to go when you arrive by car, and street parking can be very difficult in the immediate neighborhood. Læs mere

The hotel consists of room in the home John Rutledge (signer of the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution) and additional rooms in buildings near the house. Our room (in one of the out buildings) was well appointed and comfortable, with a private bath, TV, and WiFi access. Parking is available. Loved the Rutledge house. The house is absolutely beautiful, close to all of the historic downtown. The service was impeccable. We loved the breakfasts and the afternoon teas. I couldn't be happier with my stay at the Rutledge House Inn. The inn itself is absolutely gorgeous, every member of the staff was friendly and helpful, and the surrounding neighborhood is amazing. This is a perfect spot to stay within the city: the water front is at most a ten minute walk from the inn and there are a ton of wonderful restaurants, shops, […] historical sights, museums, and small parks within immediate walking distance. If the location, beauty, comfort, and friendly staff of the inn aren't enough, they deliver breakfast to your room if you want it, offer sherry and port nightcaps, and you don't have to park on the street. We absolutely LOVED our suite and the location of the B&B. Cannot say enough great things about this place. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful; breakfasts were delicious; the afternoon tea was wonderful! We will DEFINITELY stay here again if/when we get back to Charleston, SC.

The staff is very friendly, efficient and proud of their hotel. We were given a choice to have breakfast in the room, the courtyard or the "ballroom". We chose the courtyard every day because the weather was perfect. Since the breakfast was pre-ordered over night, it appeared within a couple of minutes of letting them know we were ready for it. Wonderfully historic house that has been converted into a lovely bed and breakfast. We were given a room on the 3rd floor and it was a huge suite with 2 beds, lovely views out the windows, a fireplace ( which we didn't get to use because it was too hot outside, but it would be lovely on a winter or fall evening, I'm sure) a sitting desk, some chairs […] to lounge in, a wardrobe, a table and chairs for breakfast if you request it in your room, and then a bathroom off to the side. It was so charming, beautifully decorated, with tall ceilings and just a "step back in time." All employees were so kind and friendly. You could request a delicious breakfast in either your room, the courtyard or in the 2nd floor ballroom. Just a wonderful experience in a charming town. Læs mere

Smaller boutique hotel with lots of atmosphere and character. The complimentary breakfasts were delicious. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Great location -- close to parks, restaurants, shopping. Great experience.

Attending conference in Charleston and the 'discounted' hotels were all sold out. Thank goodness they were. Got a better rate thru hotel.com and was absolutely delighted with John Rutledge House Inn. Will definitely be staying there again.

We first stayed here 15 years ago. The room is still as comfortable, the service as excellent, and the biscuit with hot sherried fruit as delicious!

This classic home and now inn in itself is a history lesson. Hotel accomdations cannot compare to the experience of staying in an inn of known recorded history. No Ghosts were experienced.

A charming place to stay and very conveniently located. We walked to one of our favorite restaurants for dinner. We stayed in one of the garden rooms separate from the main building due to wanting to take our little dog. They have 2 rooms allowing a pet. It was perfect for us! They even had a "doggy bag" of goodies to welcome our Bichon. They went out […] of their way to show real southern hospitality. They even brought breakfast to our room. We have stayed this hotel many times on our visits to Charleston. This was the first time we had a room in the newer carriage house section. I would not stay again unless I had a room in the main house. We had a fantastic stay here all the staff were so helpful the breakfast was gorgeous and changes daily . the room and public areas are very well maintained . the hotel is on a quieter road but within a block from shops restaurants and bars would def recommend the jrh

I have to thank Elizabeth for all her help while we were there. She was at the front desk the whole time we were there and went above & beyond the call of duty each time we asked her anything! Keep her around! The rooms were lovely and comfortable. Breakfast was served in our room both days and was delicious!(and hot!) We could also have eaten in the […] courtyard, which was lovely, but it was nice not having to be ready so early and it was rainy while we were there. The only negative was no elevator. We were on 2nd floor which wasn't bad, but 2 tired 60+ old women had a hard time. I guess that would take away some of the charm. Læs mere

Dieses B & B hat uns sehr gut gefallen: Die Lage war gut, es hat einen eigenen Parkplatz, der Concierge-Service war sehr hilfreich, die Inn-Besitzerin sehr sympathisch und auch hilfreich. Das Fruehstueck kann man an verschiedene Orte bestellen: ins Schlafzimmer, in den sog. Ballroom (Salon) oder in den Innenhof des Hotels. Fuer Letzteres war das Wetter […] zu heiss und feucht, so dass wir jeweils im Ballroom gegessen haben. Der Service gibt sich zwar Muehe, aber es gab wiederholt Dinge, die von der Bestellung vergessen wurden. Aber dies tat unseren Erfahrungen keinen Abbruch - sehr zu empfehlen! Læs mere
