Good basic hotel in Southampton. Nice rooms but not all that big due to the age of the building. Beware, no computer in lobby for checking in ect. and wifi costs £13 for 24 hours. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Location was very good with pubs nearby and shopping (on a rainy day) The beds were comfortable but the pillows were flat and rather hard. The staff makes this hotel a pleasant experience because they are so accomodating. The hotel is just fine for one or two nights especially since the renovation. The upgrade to the dining room is a major plus.

This was a nice hotel to stay at the night before leaving on a cruise from the Southampton Port. The rooms were very large, clean and amenities adequate. We didn't use the dining room but found a great pub about 1-2 blocks away called "The Red Lion" It has quite a history, is very quaint and had FABULOUS food for very reasonable prices. Great location, close to town centre and on the QE2 mile. Breakfast expensive and parking difficult but would stay there again.

Clean room but very small - certainly not enough room to swing a cat. Breakfast very expensive - go to the Wetherspoons up the road for a good breakfast at half the price Staff very friendly. Could do with a bigger car park. Had problems squeezing in on a couple of nights

fabulous location in old town of southampton england...short cab to the pier if you are sailing....restaurants(chinese, thai,indian,others) right across the street...older hotel....rooms spacious...our room on main street so a little noisy overall good experience if you can handle the evening noise

In addtion to my above ratings, if you were to take this hotel you MUST make sure you have a room at the back of the hotel. We stayed for a couple of nights in the end and were placed in a front room opposite a very noisy bar with an outdoor terrace. I am only 36 and do like to go to bars although this place seems to stay noisy till around 3am-4am on […] the Saturday night, add to that the gentlemens club also outside your window and you have a bit of a recipe for disaster. Good central location, excellent base for the city centre and easy to get to by car. Car parking is £3 per 24 hours . The car park at back of the hotel (on a road called "Back of the Walls") is easy to get to once you know what you are doing, but cramped and full at the weekend. The hotel has an arrangement with the adjacent NCP car park for 24 hour […] parking at the same rate as the hotel car park with a voucher provided by hotel. This car park is actually easier to use than the hotel one. Very small reception desk with just one person on duty when we arrived Friday evening, but generally staff were pleasant and helpful. The hotel is a few hundred years old and therefore a bit rambling - the distance from the lift on ther 3rd floor to our room on the 3rd floor involved three small sets of steps and a winding route. Not a big issue unless you expect Travelodge uniformity and/or are encumbered with large heavy suitcases. The public areas were all clean, well maintained and tidy. Our room was unexpectedly large and well appointed with plenty of storage space. The bed was large and comfortable and the room was clean and well serviced. However, it was at the front of the hotel overlooking the High Street and directly facing a bar (Oasis) which had loud music playing both Friday and Saturday nights until after 2 in the morning. Staying on a very hot July weekend we had the choice of closed windows and a stifling hot room, or open windows and the late night club music. We opted not to take the buffet breakfast and went to a small cafe a short way along the High Street (excellent full English breakfast for a third of the hotel price per person). Generally we were very happy with the hotel but would definitely ask for a room that did not overlook the High Street if we stayed there again. Læs mere

I've stayed at the Dolphin Hotel a few times now and it's perfect for my visits to Southampton. It has been recently refurbished so all the rooms are of a good standard. It's conveniently located near to the Docks for ferries and cruise ships and also close to the West Quay shopping centre and the city centre parks. It has a pleasant bar and a quality […] restaurant - although breakfast can be expensive if not included in the room rate. I seem to get a different room each time I stay. It's a historic building with connections to Jane Austen, so it's not like many modern hotels where every room is identical. There is a lot of variation in room size and the interior layout is a bit of a maze. Quaint, with a bit of character. Læs mere

Standard rate rooms are tiny. No AC--uncomfortable in warm weather. Clean. Good for a one night stand.

This hotel is smack in the middle of Southampton's old town. Close to pubs restaurants and shopping. That's why I choose it. Before Mercure took over it was down on its luck. Now after refurbishment, the hotel represents good value for a city centre location. Rooms are clean, albeit the bathrooms are very basic, and could have had more money spent […] on them. I was there when 10cms of snow fell outside and my room was cold... the old fashioned windows and radiators not really used to those sorts of temperatures! And the shower temperature oscillated wildly! Staff were friendly and helpful although they did get a little confused when I extended my stay by one day. Restaurant is pretty good if not cheap, bar is small and lacks any atmosphere. Breakfast is good if you get it included in the room rate but not worth the extra price if you have to pay on the day. There is a daily carparking charge and a daily charge for the use of wifi. Shame, that pushed the price up 20% on my booking price. Overall, a top location if you are going to Southampton, at a reasonable rate, especially if you get breakfast thrown in! Læs mere

Overall this is a really good hotel. Brilliantly situated close to the town and the harbour so whether shopping or site seeing it's no hassle. The hotel is part of the attractions being an old coach house with links to Jane Austen. However, this seems to create some problems. On one day of our stay the water went off for some time and some of the finishing […] seemed a bit off in the bathroom. However, these are minor quibbles and won't stop me recommending the hotel. Right in the city centre this hotel is conveniently located amongst restaurants, shops and bars. Sufficient parking around the back of the hotel but not that easy to find (not very well signposted). In order to have such an historical building comply with all the fire and safety regulations there are lots of fire doors and with all the stairs and corridors […] it is a bit of a challenge to find your room for the first time. There is a wide variety of choice on the menu in the restaurant of high quality. I would definitely stay here again! Læs mere

at checkin yes, staff were helpful in their own way.... no complaints. only issue we had was that we couldnt sleep due to the blimmin birds early morning that made an absolute racket (it wasnt chicken or pigeons but some really loud breeds, lol). but for the location, definitely good value. within 5 mins walk of the main areas and centres.... and good […] thing is that they have a cark park at the premises.... This has the potential to be a really nice hotel but more effort needs to go into the small things to get there. For example, I used the soap in my bathroom on day 1, during day 2 they removed it and did not replace. The rooms are small and don't have air con but they have provided desk fans, however the hotel is quite noisy and having to sleep with […] my windows open didn't help. The walls are also quite thin and the floor boards creaky. The bathrooms are quite shabby and the showers in both rooms I have stayed in need replacing. Check out was poor - allow loads of time if you have to be somewhere. It was busy at 8.30 and they had only one person on the desk - she was doing her best but could have done with some support so it became chaotic and the receptionist was omitting to do things like book taxis requested by guests etc. The restaurant is really nice and a reasonable price with a small but well priced wine list. Service both times I ate there was excellent. I would stay here again and would love this hotel to do well as it is attractive and well located for where I work (although not in the best area and opposite a strip club). However if you like things pristine with polished service I would avoid. Læs mere

I've stayed here a couple of times in the last month. It's much better than it used to be before it changed hands last year. Rooms at the back are quiet. Not huge but with everything one needs. My only gripe is that the wireless internet is very expensive.

Trevligt hotel med god standard. Ganska små rum med sköna sängar. Ligger nära centrum, färjan, buss- och tågstation.

Je slaapt in een historisch hotel, wat een van de bezienswaardigheden van de stad is. Prima prijs/kwaliteit verhouding (aanbieding).

Zum Schlafen schlecht.

Bodde endast en natt på hotellet. Det rum vi fick var lungt beläget och relativt stort. Säng och möbler OK - dock borde rummet ha renoverats. Läget är centralt i Southamton - nära till det mesta. Hotellet är dock mycket prisvärt.
