I did not actually meet the proprietor. It was very nicely set up- like a bed and breakfast without breakfast. DVD/VHS didn't work in room. comfortable bed.

Good location, place smells very musty. But since this is the only place we have stayed in the Volcano area not sure if it is a common smell for all accommodations. This was an elegant place to stay. Someone had paid attention to detail in designing these rooms, down to the fresh orchids on the antique dresser. The main lodge was a quaint room filled with treasures from travels overseas and a fireplace with wood cut for building a fire. Charming. I would definitely stay there again.

Decoration of the premises included wonderful artifacts and indicated a lot of thought, guest lounge was cozy with Lots of books and DVDs to borrow. Though, there is a musty smell. Great location to base exploration of the park. Provision of some breakfast buns and fruit would have been nice.

It was our first stay at a Bed and Breakfast. Strange that this B&B didn't serve breakfast. The place was cute, our room was clean, and we even had our own dehumidifier in our room that worked GREAT and helped a lot :) The place had a wood fireplace anyone could use, a large selection of movies in the movie library, and information of what to do in […] the area. They were even thoughtful and had 2 flashlights in the room to use at If we decided to see the Volcano at night. Not many choices of restaurants in town, but we didn't care as we were there for Volcano National Park (which was less than a 5 minute drive). Over all, it was nice, quiet, clean. What a fun and funny theme! The room was just perfect for our trek to the Volcanos! The real glassware, the fireplace den and little kitchen downstairs made us feel right at home. Thank you Aloha Place! I can't wait to come back!

The house is clean and has character. It is right outside the Volcano National Park. There are 3 restaurants and a small store nearby. Since it was rainy and around 50 degrees F when we were there, it would have been nice to have a space heater; however, there were several blankets on the beds, which made the night warm enough.

Comfortable older house. Although there was not a staff person to greet us there was a phone number if we needed help and it all felt very comfortable and friendly. We would stay there again.

It would have been much nicer if there was someone available to greet us. It felt a bit odd to just pick up a key and let ourselves in. Also, the outdoor lighting was inadequate. The room was warm and inviting.

Arrived and there was an overwhelming smell of fresh manure everywhere. The cottage was cold and had been closed up long enough to develop a mildew aroma that last well into the night despite our attempts to air it out. This is a small Inn in the sleepy town of Volcano. If you are staying at Volcano, then you already have very limited options. At night there is complete pitch-dark blackness. Once we found the place with the helpful Volcano resident, we found a named package for us at the door of the office, containing keys and instructions for the room. Only concern was lack of heating, since it can get quite cold at night in Volcano. We were the only ones staying at the Inn that night, so it was kinda scary as well as exciting. We were a little worried after reading some of the reviews, but were pleasantly surprised. As noted in the listing, this isn't really a Bed and Breakfast as no food is provided. There was a coffee maker and a small fridge in the room. There are no chickens on the property, but Volcano is a rural village and the neighborhood has a rooster who started […] crowing at 4 AM. If you are a light sleeper or don't care for crowing, stay in Hilo where such sounds are less likely. We stayed in the Paniolo Room which was very spacious and clean. The house is charming and was very quiet. It has a large library with a working fireplace and internet access. The gardens were lovely with horses in the rear of the property. We met the owner on our arrival and our interaction was pleasant. It was a little chilly in the morning and some way to warm up the room would have been appreciated. We'd definitely stay here again! Me and my partner had a 2 week stay in the Alii room. Very clean and good value for money. Did not meet the owner in the 2 weeks we stayed there, we did have email contact. We had a tv and dvd/video player, fridge and kettle all supplied in our room. There was always hot water available for showers/baths. Nice surroundings and very local to Volcano […] National Park. Stayed here two nights to go to the national park, which is right beside this b&b. As other travellers have mentioned in below reviews, you arrive to your key in an envelope with your name on it outside the office. You don't see any staff and your room won't be cleaned. Fine for someone wanting cheap room, clean bed but unkept room (filthy windows, broken screens, stained curtain,etc.) and knows area. NO CONTACT with owner at all (key left on office door for room) saw no human in 3 days so I wouldn't think very nice for a visitor that wants some interaction or feedback and info about the area. WE TOOK OUR 11 YEAR OLD GRANDDAUGHTER ON VACATION WITH US AND WE ALL LOVED THIS ROOM. WE STAYED 3 NIGHTS. IT WAS DECORATED IN COWBOY STYLE AND WE FOUND IT CHARMING. IT WAS COMFORTABLE AND WELL STOCKED. THE LIBRARY DOWNSTAIRS WAS FULL OF BOOKS, MOVIES, CDS, AND PICTURES. THERE WAS A LARGE TABLE DOWNSTAIRS FOR MEALS. THERE WERE RAINCOATS AND HATS BY THE […] FRONT DOOR TO USE AS WELL AS SLIPPERS OF ALL SIZES BECAUSE YOU NEED TO TAKE OFF YOUR SHOES WHEN ENTERING THE BUILDING. Lovely, clan and comfortable. Charming style. Grateful for the coffe and coffee machine provided in the room. Only complaint would be that we stayed 2 nights and there is apparently no service while staying in the inn, no room cleaning. Otherwise, the inn was lovely and quite the local feel.

Cold, cold and cold! Although the city of Volcano is in Hawaii, this area is cold (<50F) in the summer night. No heater in the Inn. Although my room had a humidifier, the air is quite damp and blanckets smell bad because of the damp inside air. I can't open windows which are very old and just stuck to window frames. So it was hard to ventilate air. […] If this inn has a heater, the humidity will decrease. Without a heater, don't stay here even in the summer. Nice and quiet bed and breakfast. Nice place to relax after long day at volcano national park. Library has a number of books, videos and cds to borrow during your stay. A nice little bed and breakfast, would definitely stay again.

It was very nice to be up at volcano, but we never saw any management personnel and the shower was borderline warm and difficult to work. Musty smell,but it's ok if you are used to older accommodations. The sitting room was well decorated and comfy. Noise really travels.

While the "breakfast" part of this bed and breakfast is nonexistent, the inn is very nice otherwise. It is not like staying at a hotel at all, more like house sitting for a friend that is out of town. It is very homey and comfortable.

We stayed in the Sushi Cottage. It was reasonably clean, but we were completely turned off by the musky odor that hit us as soon as we walked in. Possibly because of the lack of heat, the whole place seemed a bit damp, even the bed sheets. I would not stay here again.

It's really cold at night this time in volcano village. But the host prepared thick and comfortable quilt so we had great sleep there. There also have dehumidifier, mat, beach towels, flashlight, poncho, straw hat, and almost everything we need in the room. We really enjoy our stay there!

This is one of the more affordable B&B's in Volcano village, and for a good reason. We were the only guests. We never saw the owners of staff, just had an envelope with our name pinned to the office door with directions and keys. The house itself smelled like it wasn't aired in months. There was no one to greet us. Instead there were notes all over the place with highlights and boldface and exclamation marks. We felt like we'd better behave OR ELSE!! The room was a ridiculous "horse" motiff that was for a child, not a couple. Never saw a sole. It was clean but no kitchen or breakfast. It cost too much for what it was.

This facility is extremely charming in character. The grounds are beautiful and it is convenient and affordable......however, they have a dampness problem that should be addressed by humidifiers. It was very uncomfortable with condensation driping off the inside of the windows! It would have been so easy to set up a dehumidfier!

This was a quaint lovely facility- Our only problem was the bedding aarrangement. we were "assured" that there was a queen size bed "as well as a queen sofa". I even called YOU to verify this. We were shocked to find a love seat size sofa-and no linens. I had to sleep 3 nights wrapped in a coomforter. Other than that we enjoyed ourselves. Peggy

No one ever returned my call and I have no idea how I could check in before I see the envelope on woodboard outside the office wall. During my staying time, not a live person come to speak to us (though there is a car parked near the office), which makes it a little scary to stay (if you think about ghost house or so). Traveler, gird yourself with knowledge! This is not your usual hotel. It's a cross between Sunnybrook Farm and The Addams Family! A stately and pretty old house, it's kept clean and neat, but with no service. The back yard is gorgeous - backed by a Jurassic Park-like forest of tall trees/giant ferns. The creepy part is that you can never reach the management […] once you make your reservation on Expedia. An answering machine never returns calls. I never spoke to a human at any time during my stay there. It's like the house was running itself. Refrigerator in room - you will need it! This place is NOT what the usual traveler might expect, but all things considered, it was clean and well decorated, and most importantly of all, had a CLEAN BATHTUB. Though the hyper eco awareness in the area has the management putting hilarious little signs on almost everything that say 'do this' and 'don't do that' - I say "if you don't want us to be tempted, don't install a nice bathtube! So I took a much needed hot bath. When we checked out, we didn't know exactly where to leave the key. I put it in the box and never heard back from them, so it must have been okay! For travelers who are picky about cleanliness but not about service and attention, and those who enjoy utter peace and quiet, this is your rental. If you are the sort who seeks action, throngs of people, world-class service, and amenity after amenity, seek elsewhere....(perhaps Honolulu - because most of the Big Island isn't for you!) Læs mere

They never returned our phone calls (which happened to be the same number as their "emergency contact"), there was no assistance at check-in, there appeared to be no access to the owner, a host of house rules which we were not notified of until after check-in, and a rooster that woke us up at 4am. If you're expecting a bed and breakfast place, skip this one. No food. Called ahead to ask a question but never got a response. When we arrived, the only person we saw was a man cutting the grass - may have been the owner but never introduced himself. The only thing he said to us as we approached the office door was "it's tacked on the door". We didn't […] understand what he meant initially but our key and instructions were tacked to a cork board on the office. We never saw anyone else at the place. As mentioned by someone else, there is a no shoes rule (bench provided on porch was very dirty) and a no bath rule (a good soak after a day of hiking at the park is sometimes nice). We only stayed one of a two-night stay. The room was cramped and though you had use of other parts of the house, it was not at all welcoming place. There is no service in this Inn, just a bunch of notes, guidelines and house rules. It is a very old place with a very musky smell and giant spiderwevs on the windows. We were staying in the Paniolo room which was overly decorated with horses, including 2 giant stuffed ones. Our room wasn't aired in ages, which made the smell even worse. I was happy […] to leave after 2 nights - to notice that by that time my clothes were smelling too!.. Please note there is no one on this property (we have seen a car on miltiple occasions), but no one came over to great us. Nous avons logé dans une des chambre a l'etage (le rez de chaussée etant occupé par une salle a manger et une bibliotheque decorées chaleureusement). La chambre en elle meme etait confortable et joliment decorée, assez fraiche (volcano oblige) mais bien pourvu en couette, donc aucun soucis(du moins en septembre). Nous n'avons pas vu la tenanciere, un […] mot nous attendait sur la porte (pour nous, ce n'etait pas un souci).Dans la bibliotheque il y a une cheminée avec tout le necessaire pour faire un feu de bois (ce que je ne me suis pas privé de faire ... ps: la cheminée necessiterait peut etre un peu de ramonage ;-) ). Bref un tres bon sejour de 2 nuits, d'autant plus que nous etions les seuls a occuper toute la maison durant ces 2 nuits !!!! Par contre, je prefere prevenir, volcano c'est assez mort le soir, pas de supermarché, au mieux un epicier, et 2 restos (dont un tres bon thai) Læs mere

Nous étions dans la chambre Paniolo avec un lit double et un petit lit. La déco est très originale avec des chevaux et du bleu sur les murs. Notre petite fille a adoré. Il y a un salon avec cheminée, livres, CD et DVD à disposition. Il n'y a pas de petit déjeuner mais une cafetière et un petit frigo sont à disposition. Ce B&B est très bien situé, seulement […] à 5 minutes de l'entrée du parc national des Volcans et dans la rue principale où on trouvait les restaurants et petits commerces de Volcano. Cependant, les propriétaires sont complétement inexistants! Nous avons eu nos clefs dans une enveloppe avec des instructions et nous les avons rendu dans la boite à clefs.
