Hotellet var ok til prisen, har brugt det til overnatninger til og fra paros. et gennemgående træk for oplevelsen af f.eks morgenmaden i grækenland, er at at morgenmaden ikke er nogen oplevelse, specielt ikke på dette hotel, morgenkaffen blev brygget dagen før inden baren lukkede, og har derfor stået 7 - 8 timer inden den blev serveret, det samme gælder morgenæggene som vi kunne se stå klar omkring midnat. Forslag: prøv at gøre morgenmaden til en lidt større oplevelse, det må kunne gøres for en beskeden merpris.

Opholdet varede 2 nætter. Tog metro fra Piræus til Viktoria og skulle finde vej dertil, men blev guidet forkert vej og havnede i et slum-område, hvor vi var tæt på at blive overfaldet af en gade-bande. En venlig græker hjalp os med at skaffe taxa og kom frem. Der var superservice fra personalet. Dag 2 når vi vores mål med at taget til Akropolis til fods og Arkæologisk Museum, som ligger 2 min. fra os. Ingen problemer. Aftensmad på en hyggelig restaurant på gå-afstand fra hotellet. Hjem og pakke. Men her skete der noget på gaden under os. Vi boede i 5. sal med udsigt til bagsiden af Arkæologisk Museum, hvor der er faste vagter på krydset med 4 kampklædte politifolk. De var der også nogle år tilbage, da vi tilbragte et par dage samme sted. Nogle provokatører havde kastet en kanonslag mod politiet og de svarede igen med tåregas. Et øjeblik lignede vores gade en krigszone og gaden var tåget af gassen. Ganske ubehageligt. Morgenen efter måtte vi tage en taxa til lufthavnen, da vi ikke vil risikere at blive udsat for noget ubehageligt på vores vej derhen. Personalet har et meget højt serviceniveau og taxachaufføren var en meget venlig mand. Jeg vil ikke udelukke at bo på hotellet igen en anden gang. Men Athen er blevet et lidt usikkert sted at være i disse krisetider.

Athen er en fantastisk by og hvis man ønsker det kan man gå til centrum på en lille halv time, eller benytte undergrunden, så er man downtown på ti minutter. Har man forsynet sig med hotellets ret store morgenmadsbuffet så er man klar til selv de værste strabadser. Skal der dryppes lidt malurt i blevet, så må det være, at vinduerne ikke så ud til at være blevet vasket de sidste 5 år, og kvarteret måske har set bedre dage. En gammel skrøne vi hørte meget om inden vi tog af sted, var at der skulle være beskidt og en masse forurening, det er to udsagn der absolut ikke stemmer overens med nutidens Athen.

På den sydlige side af Plaka ligger den arkæologiske promenade, der er omdannet til gågade, ved foden af Akropolis, hvor den skærer ind mellem Filopappos Hills fyrretræsdækkede skråninger og Herodes-teatret (bygget 2 e.Kr.), hvor der holdes friluftsarrangementer hele sommeren. I nærheden ligger det nye Akropolis-museum, der er designet af den schweiziske arkitekt Bernard Tschumi.

Since our main objective was to visit the new Acropolis Museum, the Athens Gate Hotel suited our needs perfectly. The fact that the remains of the Temple of Olympian Zeus were across the street and visible from our window was an added bonus. We found the staff to be extremely helpful, often going out of their way to accommodate our needs, whether it […] be finding a pharmacy that was open in the evening, calling a cab, or supplying us with much tourist information. The breakfasts were also excellent in both quality and quantity, and the fact that they were served in the very attractive rooftop cafe/bar (with a commanding view of the Acropolis and Parthenon) added much to the dining experience. The location is fantastic, right near the Acropolis, and close by the subway to go all over town. THe desk staff was very helpful with advice about getting around. An internet option is to purchase a WI-Fi access card from them (vs. the 5 euro/per […] day) at your choice of denomination--easy and at your convenience. Great view of the Aacropolis from the rooftop breakfast restaurant. Excellent service from Stella at the front desk, our bags were lost by the airline, & she kept phoning the airport to check on them while we went out for a great dinner at nearby Daphne's restaurant.

Hotel is in the perfect location. From the rooftop terrace, (bar and restaurant), you can see the Acropolis, Parliament and the Temple of Zeus. The best view of Athens in the city! The hotel is extremely clean and friendly. Our room was on the 5th floor and had a balcony overlooking the Temple of Zeus! Fabulous at night! Breakfast is amazing! Lots of […] things from which to choose and sitting out on the rooftop terrace is a perfect way to start the day. Cabs were getting ready to strike the day we were leaving so they arranged for a private car to pick us up and even had a bag breakfast packed for us as we left, which was at 4:30 am! Walked throughout the whole Plaka - no car needed once you've seen all the architectural things to see. Just around the corner from the Acropolis Museum, which is fantastic, by the way! The only thing I could see improved upon is the mattress and the pillows! Both were a bit hard but the location, the view and the staff made up for the shortfalls. I would definitely stay here again. We had a late arrival and stayed for one night only so didn't spend much time in the hotel. The room was comfortable with a very nice view to the Temple of Zeus but the downside was the street noise. Stayed two nights, one at the beginning of our trip one at the end. Both times stayed on 7th floor, once with view of the Temple of Olympian Zeus and once with a view of the Acropolis. All I can say is wow, it is worth being on the upper floors to get such a view from you nice patio. If nothing else, eat at the wonderful rooftop resteraunt (terrific […] food) ro take in the view, or meander up fo a drink at the bar. Little over a block from the metro for incredible convince to airport and attractions. Rooms are wonderful, great bathrooms and nice beds. This hotel is in a really good location. Right next to the acropolis and the plaka. From the airport we took the bus for about 45 minutes and then walked 15 minutes since you can not get a taxi. Thier rooftop restaurant has great views and good food.

We chose this hotel as it was close to all the site we wanted to see. Across the road from the Temple of Zeus. Across the road and 1 minutes walk up the road to catch the Hop On, Hop Off Bus. Down the road from Parliament House, the Changing of the Guards and around the corner from the Plaka. Just jump on the "Hop On" bus to take you to the Acropolis […] and any other site you want to go - easy. The room was clean and comfortable - especially the bed. The restaurant/Bar upstairs has the good view of the Parthenon, the Temple of Zeus and the Stadium that has a light show every night. If staying here you must go up even if it's only a drink. We went to Electra Place for a meal (top class restaurant $$$) but we thought our view from our hotel was much, much better as Electra's view is only the Acropolis. Staff always willing to help. Athen's Gate Hotel is centrally located to some great sights in Athens. The Front Desk was wonderful and the room was beautiful. I loved the Balcony overlooking the Temple of Zeus! The upstairs dining was very good and the breakfast was great too. Would stay here again!

Excellent location for all the main tourist sites, a few minutes walk from the Acropolis metro stop, and worth staying at just for the views from the top floor balcony / bar; or even from your own balcony which offer great views of the Acropolis and Temple of Olympian Zeus (across the street).
