The resort is very nice and relaxing. The hotel personnel are very nice and helpful. However, the buffet is not that great. On the other hand, certain restaurants are really good. So, make sure to reserve restaurants as soon as possible. The room is spacious and neat. However, I wish the bathroom was just slightly cleaner.

I should first disclose that my husband is a picky food and drinks guy. Grounds: gorgeous, very well kept Beach: had organic beach debris, lots of loungers available. downside: no beach bar so you had to go to the nearest pool for drinks Room: we got an ocean view king on the ground floor and loved it. our "yard" had 2 loungers that we used everyday […] to soak up the sun Pool: never an empty lounger on the adult side but we discovered the pool at the spa for "hydrotherapy" and it was a gem! We got prime location that was never full or with kids. Drinks: first there was no scotch and my husband only drinks scotch and beer. He had to settle for whiskey but was not happy about it. The cocktails I tried were really really sweet. And they are served in the flimsiest plastic cups. bring your own cup with lid and straw! Food: The buffets are all pretty similar. Food was ok. it would almost always be cold by the time you got back to your table. Restaurants were ok as well. menus were hard to understand since they were in 3 or 4 languages. We liked the Japanese restaurant best. And you have to make reservations every night otherwise you couldn't get a spot at any of their 9 restaurants. We spent 7 days at Barcelo Adults only in Feb 2013. The resort is huge and really looks nice. The pools, walkways, beach they are all very nice. The beach especially has a lot of mature palm trees which give good shade. We usually avoid sun exposure at noon time, but here the shaded areas on the beach were readily available and we spent full days without […] getting sunburn. The food: you can eat at the common restaurant buffett style, which has a good selection, or you can make reservations at theme restaurants. We did make the reservations, but concluded that the food is very similar so we ate at the common place. You should note that these common restaurants are also available in the Deluxe (main) section of the resort and food there is much better. It takes about 5min walk to get there, but the walk is nice along the beach. So overall, we liked it. A few negatives to consider: - the staff generally do not speak English very well - motor boats make a lot of noise all day long on the beach - they love deep bass with music (all through the resort); from distance, all you hear is bass - not much to do; bring somethig to read or even better come as a group and socialize Positives: - Resort is big and very nice - If you like swimming pools ... there is a lot of that - Beach is beautiful, lot's of chairs, shade available, sand is white and very fine; water warm - Food ... we liked it (unlimited lobster tails for every lunch and dinner!!!) We were in the Adults Only - All included, where beach is the best. Noise from motor boats, tourist's boats and helicopters could be annoying. The rest is average or poor compared with similar hotels and for the price. Drinks and house wines are very low quality, but hotel offers better for extra charge. Food offer is not great. The beach on the adults only side was nice but the beach on the main side of the main side of the resort was rocky. Food was excellent on the main side and quite gross on the adult side. If you choose to go you will do what we did and spend a lot of time on the train gpong back and forth. Oh and they don't have aweet and sour mix ao many drinks that […] we wanted were not made correctly. It took us about 4 days to find a drink we liled. Miami Vice qas our safe bet. Club Premium was nice, with much better customer service than the front desk. All and all not a horrible hotel but for an adult trip not my top pick. Stayed in Adults Only side, but an easy walk (or train ride) to Palace Deluxe, where most of the restaurants, bars and disco are located. Beaches are BEAUTIFUL! Pools are also fantastic, although the PD side has large pools (but also kids). AO rooms are recently refurbished and are OK, but we weren't there to stay in the room. Buffet food was average, […] but some of the included restaurants are much better. Disco was awesome! Also have Strikers Sports Bar with 24hr buffet and several TV's with all the sports. Watched the Ravens topple the Broncos on their big screen TV (with theater seating). The Grand Theater in PD has some great shows; AO has a smaller theater but also good shows. Excursions were lots of fun (check out El Gringo on the beach, just off the resort, for a great snorkling trip for $30 USD). Upon check-in to the Adults Only hotel, we were told that our reservations were changed to the partner hotel because they accidentally overbooked. However they did upgrade us to a Jr. Suite which was extremely nice. The food wasn't the best but the Sports Bar had shrimp and steak tips everyday and both were fairly decent. The pools are massive and gorgeous […] and the bartenders were not stingy with the alcohol. The only downside to our trip was that the front desk staff were not very friendly and they never sent anyone to fix the phone in our room or give us a do not disturb sign so we got woke up early every morning by housekeeping. This is a big resort facility. We are flustrated during our first one or two days because we do not know how to use each restaurant or facility and where it is, virtually no explanation being provided at the time of check-in or thereafter. In addition, we could not enjoy French or Japanese restaurant, nor room services without additional charges. Itarian […] restraunt was full of reservation. Even with additional charges, the room sevices were too late to be served (only two sandwiches took more than one hour!) If you dare to go there, you would need in-advance research before going to maximize your benefit. You need a reservation before 16:00 for almost all restaurants. The sea was beautiful and common facilites are well maintained. There are many type of activities you can enjoy with additional charges. Therefore, you should reserve your budget for such activities. I paid for adult only section and I was sent to non-adult section. I did not know what happened; I was told that there was no room available in the adult section. I could not call Expedia from my cell phone. The hotel was beautiful but the staff was not helpful at all. I did not know the reason why I was sent to non-adult section. Pools, restaurant options, coffee/cigar lounge, game room, gym, spa, activities, etc keeps you busy, entertained, and gives you no reason to step out of the resort. Our room was oceanfront, jr suite. Spacious, clean, well ventilated and with a jacuzzi in the balcony ++++. We were amazed with the many different activities throughout the hotel and throughout the hotel. We booked on the adults side but they were overbooked and "upgraded" us which gave us access to the whole property. This was also a huge bonus. If I had to choose one, I'd choose the adult side. There are LOTS of kids on the main property. I must bring up the casino--especially since we spent every night we were there in there. The service SUCKS. The dealers are the unfriendliest EVER encountered (& I've been to many, in diff countries). Casino is def rigged..I read about he warnings but didn't heed. Nonetheless a casino is a casino & gamblers will find their way inside. I enjoyed my company and that's what matters, I guess. But you've been warned ;) Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel for families. It is a great deal with equally great amenities. I would return with the family but not with my spouse alone. The hotel is beautiful and the facilities are new and top notch. It's a lovely place on paper. The execution just isn't there. I stayed for 3 and a half days, and the only meals I enjoyed were eggs and one of the dinners at the restaurants. I'm not sure why the food was this bad, but it really put a damper on the trip. We traveled to the Barcelo Bavaro Beach with another couple. When we arrived we were taken to a Club Premium room, but in the Bavaro Princess, which is not adults-only. The room was nice. The dining choices were not very good. All 4 members of our party were sick at some point during the trip, and I mean stay-in-bed, miss a day and a half of your vacation […] sick. We were very careful about the water. A number of the restaurants were fair to average. The standouts were La Comedie and the Steakhouse. Th pool areas and grounds were beautiful. Beach was very nice as well, except for the seaweed. The major issues we had were the level of service, general bad attitudes of the employees and the filth in the elevators. There was food on the floor and obvious spills dripping down the walls and it was never cleaned. It smelled horrible. I saw many housekeeping employees exit the elevators and they did nothing to clean them. I will not return to this property. If I return to the Domincan Republic, I will look for a better property. We stayed at the Adults Only Beach Resort this week (early December) since we don't have any kids of our own and were not traveling with family, so it was perfect (no crying, howling, begging, whining, etc.)! The beach/pool/bar areas were great and the staff were friendly... Best to get a quick set of English-to-Spanish words/phrases down before you […] go. I speak a fair amount of Spanish so it was easier for us to communicate overall, but as an FYI - there's definitely a language barrier - as there should be if you're traveling to a foreign country! ;) The Palace Deluxe was GORGEOUS, but wasn't worth the extra $$$ for us since we enjoyed all of the same amenities with just a short "choo-choo-train/trolley" ride away (literally 5-10min) and kept the Adults Only feel we wanted. The U Spa... AMAZING SERVICES, a lil' pricey, but well worth it. The nightclub - GREAT MIX of dance music from Pop/house/techno (euro and american)/salsa/merengue/regeton - we had a blast. The food was great for the buffet areas - nice variety... The "fancier" restaurants that require reservations for dinner are nice if you feel like stepping it up a little. I'd definitely recommend requesting that the food be ordered "medium" as they leaned toward over-cooking all of the meats and seafood unless specifically ordered as mentioned. We stayed in the adults only section which is almost pointless b/c for most dinners we had to catch the trolley to the family section. The buffets for breakfast and lunch are absolutely awful & nearly inedible but the dinners were pretty darn good especially Mexican & Italian restaurants. There was a different one hour show on the adult side each night, […] they were okay. I've been to Cancun & Riviera Maya for all inclusive and the people just weren't as friendly in the Dominican. Not saying nobody was friendly but not as friendly as I'd like or am use to. They had people cleaning seaweed on the beach everyday. There were random boats docked to the left side of the ocean for rentals and excursions along with the aquarium straight out in front of the beach. No clear views. We didn't spend the extra for premium and had an ocean front, not as close to the ocean as I would've liked but it was still good enough. Room service didn't come until really late so some days we didn't even have our room cleaned or get new towels. They were doing loud construction in the room above and the building next door, that was obnoxious. The only offer 1 beer - Presidente. I didn't like that you had to make reservation the day you get there or you might not eat until 10pm. We speak English and it was few and far between finding someone to have a conversation with. Overall though I would recommend going here but next time I might pay more to go somewhere better or just go back to Mexico. Læs mere

I went with my girlfriend for 4 nights in late November. I did a lot of research prior to booking and read through a lot of generally mixed reviews both on Expedia and Trip Advisor. I had some concerns going into this trip and to my surprise ended up being VERY satisfied with my stay and overall experience. For what you pay, the value is almost shocking […] to the point where I wonder how this resort even makes money. Service/Friendliness of Staff - Friendly staff. Sure the service is a bit slower, but you're on island time! All spoke enough English to understand you. Hotel/Beach Grounds - Absolutely stunning! The grounds were so well planned out and cared for that one could easily think you were staying at a 5 star hotel. Best beach in Punta Cana. Food/Dress Code – The food is my only real complaint. Plenty of food options at this resort, but it's less about the selection and more about the overall taste. By the 4th day I found myself wishing I could leave the resort to eat somewhere else. Everything started to taste the same. Still for the value the food simply cannot be beat. They have a strict long pants dress code for dinner which is funny considering it's a tropical island. Rooms (3.5 out of 5) - Very spacious with flat screen tv's a mini bar and a patio or balcony. The furnishings were a bit bare and felt a bit cheap, but nothing that would ruin your stay. If you enjoy eating good food...do NOT go to this hotel! They only offer buffet for breakfast and lunch and it is just terrible!! No salt, no seasoning. The meat felt like you were chewing on rubber. For dinner however, the restaurant options were really good. You have to make reservations but we had no problem in doing so. We ate at the Italian, French, […] and Español all very good. And if you expect to eat some delicious authentic Dominican food, you will be sadly disappointed because they offer no such thing. My next complaint was the staff, wow, couldn't beleive how rude some of them were! Some were very nice, like the front desk and all the house keeping, but everyone else mainly the wait staff were horrible! I read some reviews of others who complain about this but my husband and I figured we wouldn't have a problem since we are both Hispanic and speak fluent Spanish...but nope!! Terrible service all around to everyone! West several other couples who complained about the same. If you are use to going to Mexico and being waited on right away, don't bother coming here! We went to Cancun in July and this is a complete 180. There were times when we were hanging out by the pool for over 40 minutes and no one came to get our drink order!! All was fine... Except the wine! We aren't fussy wine drinkers, but found the red, white and sparkling to be undrinkable. Of course we had the option of purchasing bottles of wine at the restaurants... Which we did! The hotel complex was much larger than anticipated and beautiful. We stayed at the Adult only resort and it was nice to have access to all areas and activities and also be able to return to the peacefulness of our resort. I would definitely recommend upgrading to the Club Premium. The variety of restaurants to choose from was great and the food was […] excellent. The spa is one of the best one I've been to. Far bigger than what the websites and reviews lead you to believe. You are connected with the Barcelo Deluxe which isn't adults only and all the restaurants are on their side so you still have to eat with kids. There are trolleys that will take you over to the other sides and you and you can walk, but it is a long walk. The food was OK. They definitely catered to other nationalities more than American. By the end of the week we were sick of the food. We have stayed at the Paradisus and NOW Larimar and we would highly recommend those. The Hotel was very clean, well kept and beautiful. However, the sevice staff were mediocre at best. There was a huge language barrier, very few staff/employees spoke English despite 50%of their guests being American. We had to wait for 15-20 minutes to get a drink at the restaurants and the drinks were not much colder than room temperature anywhere […] on the resort. There were no servers or bars on the beach at all and they only serve 1 kind of beer on the resort "Presidente' which is similar to a budweiser. The food at the buffet was just fair. They would serve pancakes, waffles, etc but no syrup. Fish and seafood but no tartar or cocktail sauce. The food was often cold. The restaurants required a reservation but then we'd have to wait so long for our drinks and each course to be served that you had to plan on 2 hours for dinner. We kept requesting wash clothes and it took 3 days and about 15 requests to get them! #Not exxagerating# Would not go back to this resort, will stick with Jamaica. Læs mere

Few things […] I can see being a problem, the bathroom has a very HIGH tub that you have to step into which(problem if you have balance issues), it could use some new grout but by no means is it nasty, Everythings was clean (toilet, tub, and shower). Mini fridge always stocked and refilled EVERYDAY no addl charge. TV -Spanish and English channels, ceiling fans, and a nice comfy bed. Good to know some Spanish. Staff is bilingual but primarily not.. You must book reservations in advance at 1 of the 7 dinner choices, not including the buffets. Shows are nightly across the resorts and there is always something to do. CON- gift shops on the resort can be a bit pricey (a mini mall is located at the resort ),if you want to purchase something by cash you must go to guest services and pay, then come back with a receipt, then get your merchandise, which is frustrating. This is a MUST SEE RESORT! The flowers, hammocks and pools and sooo many palm trees makes me want to go back again and again! Læs mere

Our hotel experience was over all great, only compliant would be on the last nite at the one hotel bar they took forever to wait on us guess by that point there were some regulars at the bar and they seemed to be catered too, but i just went in sat in the lobby then and one of the waitress help up quickly. LOVED this resort, LOVED the Dominican, LOVED my trip! Things to know: --This adults only resort is part of a much larger resort. Three hotels make up one large resort. (Adults only (Beach), family (Palace), and golf course (The Lakes) resort). --Upgrade to the Premier Club --The only rudeness we encountered were from other guests. Lots of them. (line […] cutting, whether it was at the bar, while shopping, waiting to be sat for dinner, etc). --If you attempt to speak Spanish the staff is A LOT friendlier, not that they weren't friendly to begin with, but they will also try to teach you some and are eager to learn more English. Hotel Grounds: Emaculate! My husband and I joked about how many people it must take to keep it up. Absolutely beautiful and clean! Rooms: Room service seemed to come twice a day. In the late morning and early evening. I am SUPER PICKY about hotel rooms and in my opinion the rooms were nothing to write home about, but nothing to complain about either. The pictures on their website I believed accurately portrayed them. Food: Depends on who you are, what you order, & what you expect. I didn't have complaints about my food, but the common consenses was to stay away from the sea food resturant, although the seafood everywhere else was good! The main resort (Palace) was very busy, but the Adults-only side was much calmer. Loved the spa! Boys loved the golfing. Short ride from the airport. Tipping is not neccessary but goes a LONG way!! I loved this hotel. It was like a paradise on the beach. The pool and bars and open air reception was amazing. Every night we'd lay by the pool and sip champagne as the night took over. It was such a romantic place. We took advantage of the attached resorts and activities. Dolphins, snorkeling, speed boating and golfing were all great, and it was nice […] to meet other couples who spoke English. Most everyone there was there to have a good time and so it was always fun to meet new people. Most of the other guests were European, I'd say Russian mostly, then Italian, and lastly American. My biggest gripe was the staff. It was frustrating to communicate because 90% of the staff didn't speak any English. Læs mere
