Hotel Du Bois - Les Houches

We had a great time at Hotel Du Bois, from arrival to departure the staff was helpful and smiling. The rooms are a bit old, but clean and well equipped. There's a lovely swimming pool with a fantastic view to Mont Blanc. Also the very cosy lounge area with free wifi is a treat. Breakfast buffet is very nice and one night we also had the dinner buffet, […] which was very good. Boring room and boring food.

Stayed for two nights here. The reception and bar staff were extremely friendly and obliging. As was the gentleman who drove the shuttle bus taking skiers to the slopes. The ski-hire place they recommended me, which was exactly across the road, was also great and cheap, and staffed by a hilarious Frenchman. Pool and sauna were nice, if a little small, […] and the bar is a lovely place to relax. There are also plenty of English-language TV channels in the room, if the skiing doesn't take your fancy. This hotel was clean, modern, the staff was friendly, and the price was right. It is close to Chamonix but without the prices. Very comfortable place to sleep after a long day of skiing.

Bottom line: It took more than an hour-and-a-half to get to the actual ski area from this hotel. The rooms are cramped and cold, and the common area is at best rustic. Although the staff is friendly and accommodating, I think the hotel should be at the two-star level, rather than three reported on Hotels.com. Given the location, I cannot recommend it. Regarding […] the location: I searched for this hotel by typing "Chamonix" into the location box and looking for a room big enough for three people (I wanted extra space but had only two travelers). This result was in Hotels.com top five and in the search results page listed "Mont Blanc," which is affiliated with Chamonix, as part of the location description. But this hotel is not actually in Chamonix at all. It is for a different and smaller ski area called Les Houches. It took an hour-and-a-half on an extremely crowded resort bus to get to Chamonix, which has the world-famous skiing. At nighttime, taxis to Chamonix (which was all the restaurants, etc.) were very expensive, more expensive than a taxi ride between the airport and the city center of large cities like Chicago or New York. Given the location, I would strongly recommend against this hotel. I was dissatisfied with the Hotels.com search feature for returning this so prominently in the search results without indicating the distance. Also, I think including "Mont Blanc" in the location description is miseading. Læs mere

Great views of mountains, short drive from chamonix proper

Hotel was clean, nice, and staff was very accommodating, moving us from a room by the road that was very loud, to one on the back of the building that was quieter. For three stars could use a computer for guests, staff did let us go behind the counter to use theirs. The hotel met our needs, but was nothing to rave about and if you are going to see Chamonix […] it can be a pain catching the train or bus to get there from here. Læs mere

View from room was nice, def ask for a view of Mont Blanc, the otherside wouldn't be as nice as right on the road side, quiet, a little dated but good for our needs. would recommend

We stayed hear for one night whilst on a driving Holiday around the Alp's. The Hotel is basically fine but our room had a terrible smell of creosote or something similar and found the staff unhelpfull refusing to move us to another room. We had to sleep with the door and windows open and still felt ill the next morning. So would not recomend this Hotel […] at all. Læs mere

Nice cabin-like room with a port looking out to Alps. It was a memorable hotel. It has a nice swiming pool.

The airlines lost my bags, so I had Tibetan another night. The hotel not only booked me, but called to find out when my bags would be delivered. The went way out if there way!!!

We arrived a little to be told our room wasn't quite ready, but almost without pausing for breath the receptionist found an equlvilant room that was ready and exchanged it for ours. Entering the room we were confronted with a warma nd cosy alpine room, but opening the curtains and going on to the balcony was awesome. The view of Mont Blanc and the Aquile […] de Midi was really spectacular. We decided to eat in the restaurant the first evening and despite the menu on reception suggesting a number of courses the food was a buffet so it was possible to try everything. We were a bit surprised to find kangaroo in chocolate sauce on the menu in the Alps but the buffet style did allow us to try a small piece. Not really to our taste but an experience none the less. The second night the menu was a little more traditional but still quite good. Breakfast was typical for this part of Europe and set us up for the day. The staff were all helpful and offered friendly advise and help on what to see etc. Would definitely stay here again, and would love to use it in Winter. Læs mere

The view of the Alps was georgous from the balcony, the staff was wonderful and the breakfast delicious. However, the rooms are quite dated and in need of update.

Hôtel sympathique, qui fait bien plus penser à une pension de famille qu'à un hôtel 3 étoiles... Mais la piscine à l'extérieur est un régal. Concernant la chambre, nous étions 3 dans une chambre soit-disant triple ; en fait un 3ème lit a été ajouté, et comme la chambre était déjà très petite pour 2 alors pour 3 personnes, on avait beaucoup de mal à […] se déplacer! et le mobilier est un peu vieillot. Nous avons ete decus. Il s'agit d'un hotel 3 etoiles et nous n'avons pas eu de connection internet que ce soit dans notre chambre ni dans le jardin. La reception nous a dit que internet serait accessible dans leur jardin... Le matelas etait correct mais les coussins d'une qualite tres moyenne. Aussi le linge de bain etait use. Pas de savonnette ou shampoing […] en dose individuelle, juste un distributeur de savon, shampoing comme dans un hotel de basse gamme. Aussi notre chambre etait situee du cote de la rue, et la fenetre etait mal isolee phoniquement. Nous pouvions egalement entendre nos voisins dans la chambre adjacente. AU premier abord c'est un hotel acceuillant et agréable, on pourrait s'attendre à avoir du calme à la montagne, et c'est le cas dans l'hotel jusqu'à ce que vos voisins de chambre, (à coté, en haut, en fasse) bouge et vous vous rendez compte que l'isolation phonique est extremement faible. A partir de 6h du matin on a eu droit à l'orchestre des toilettes […] très intimes, aux mouvement de l'assenceur, aux portes, au roulement des valises, et même à un coît ! Læs mere

The hotel is close to Chamonix. The room was OK, but a bit outdated. The bathroom needs a bit of upgrading as well as the linens. The bed was pretty narrow, probably less than 150cm wide. The staff was very helpful and we were able to get an early check-in. The breakfast was nice with a good selection. Overall an OK hotel.

Adresse à conseiller, personnel accueillant et restaurant plutôt pas mal. Attention, si vous partez tôt, la réception n'ouvre qu'à 8h00, et la réceptionniste n'était vraiment pas sympa alors que nous étions assez pressé. Dommage car sinon rien à dire sur le confort et la situation de l'hôtel.

Notre séjour dans cet hôtel a été excellent. L'accueil a été génial. Tout est facile, agréable et convivial. Il s'agit d'un lieu à recommander.

accueil très sympathique, chambres on ne peut plus calmes et bien entretenues, jeux pour les enfants, piscine intérieure et extérieure. Un très bon rapport qualité/prix. Seul petit bémol : petit déjeûner un peu cher.

Wir würden dieses Hotel auf jeden Fall weiterempfehlen. Neben den recht ordentlichen Zimmern stehen den Gästen auch Frei- und Hallenbad sowie ein kleiner Saunabereich zur Verfügung. Frühstück und Abendessen waren sehr lecker.

Hôtel calme aux portes de CHAMONIX. Chambre et salle de bains très propres. Personnel agréable et poli. Petit déjeuner varié, à volonté et conséquent .

CHAMBRES COMMUNICANTES BONNES DIMENSIONS PROPRES ET CONFO. DINER CHER ET PEU APPÉTISSANT. PETIT DEJ TRÈS BON AVEC PLEIN DE CHOIX DE PAIN, FROMAGES, ŒUFS, CÉRÉALES. PARKING GRATUIT MAIS PAS ASSEZ DE PLACES, SI VOUS ARRIVEZ PLUS TARD QUE 21H00 IL FAUT SE GARER AILLEURS.

Sehr angenehmens Hotel, super freundliches Team, gerade der neue hintere Teil des Hotels ist ruhig und schoen eingerichtet. Super Blick auf Mont Blanc - echte Empfehlung fuer einen Aufenthalt in der Gegend, nur das Restuarant hatte leider nur Buffet mit vorgegeben Zeiten - nicht so unser Ding. Trotzdem: best buy! Einfach in die Brasserie (mit viel lokalen […] Gasesten) in 4 Gehminuten Entfernung gehen. Læs mere
