All in all it was a good stay at the Nippon Hotel. A little bit expensive for being an off season (we ended up paying $190 per night, taxes included). The personnel was very friendly and helpful. They were more than ready to give tips and pointers. We reserved an excursion to visit the sites in Istanbul, and it was correct. On our last evening, they […] recommended a restaurant for us, with a free shuttle, and it was an enjoyable experience (usually I avoid such recommendations which end up in a tourist trap). We were at 2 min walk from Taksim street and 15 min walk from Osmanbey street. One bad experience though in the Nippon Hotel, they did not have the AC on during our stay (temperature was around 25), and there was no possibility of turning the AC on; I do not know if it is the same during the summer period. Not a four star -- fine and nice but not deluxe. You could hear the street noises and others opening/closing doors. No rooftop or outdoor space.

Excellent front desk staff. Our luggage became lost by the airlines and we had filled out the required paper work at the airport and had a reference number and telephone number that we were told by the airline to call on a periodic basis to check on the status of returning it to us, but the front desk staff offered to take on the task of contacting […] the airline and arranging delivery of the bags. The bags were delivered to our room within 24 hours. We were impressed as this hasn't happened in our experience at any other hotel in a similar situation. Læs mere

The Nippon hotel is well located in the tourist area. The hotel is clean and well maintained. Good value for overall. What was lacking was the upkeep of the room. Replenishment of tea, sugar etc was a constant battle. When I called th desk for replenishments, I was told that they were sending them. These never arrived and it was quite frustrating. Way overpriced for what you are getting. There is no pool and not much facilities. Breakfast was not included! We had to carry the baby stroller up the stairs everytime we needed to get in or out of the hotel as there was no ramp. They did not have any rooms with a joining door (we stayed in two rooms). Actually, they did not even give us adjacent rooms […] even though we were one family and asked for that on the reservation form. I recently stayed here for 2 nights. I wasn-t expecting too much from this hotel: it matched my criteria for price and location - close to Taksim and the airport bus and seemed ok on the basis of previous reviews at the time I booked it. However, I was pleasantly surprised and based on my recent experience would definitely stay here again. The decor […] of the room was contemporary enough and it was quite well laid out. The bed was comfortable and despite being only two floors up and opposite other hotels and restaurants in the street, noise wasn-t a particular problem. The staff were sufficiently polite, friendly and efficient. On my second day I was asked by one of the supervisory staff carrying a clipboard if I felt my room had been cleaned satisfactorily, which was indeed the case. I only had a short stay here en route to somewhere else, but overall I was very happy with the room and slept well both nights. I have stayed at other standard 4* hotels in this part of the Taksim area and based on my recent experience, I have to say this was my best experience of these hotels so far. Læs mere

I lake this hotle because It is so nice and its located in the middle of taksim. On the other hand there is no swimming pool in it and room size not big I think alittle bit small.

Overall a decent stay at the Nippon Hotel. The rooms appeared to be recentrly renovated. The bed was cnmfortable, but the pillows were Ikea-like and too bulky. Decent location near Taksim Square and the surrounding area was pleasant enough to relax.

The hotel was clean and modern and within walking distance to some historic attractions. Great Japanese restaurant across the hotel to dine at.

Nice staff, clean room but very small. Pillows are uncomfortable but I liked the matress. Nice location near taksim with many nice bars and hotels. This did not cause any noise problems at night. I was dissapointed that the substantial room-rate did not include breakfast.

Very good location in Taksim square, near Metro, bustops and tramway within walking distances. Overall the hotel is good but they did not refill the teabags and coffees everyday, perhaps that they think travellers would drink Turkish coffee all the times outside :) Service is brilliant and the staff replied to our request almost immediately. They only […] provide internet connection but not WiFI so if you do not have a computer or laptop with ADSL connection, you are stuck. I enjoyed my stay and the staff at the desk spoke good English. Service was prompt. Overall the room was a bit small but clean and had all the amenities. Again it was in the center of Istanbul!

The hotel was very located and the staff was very courteous (esp the ushers / bellboys). The front office gave good and timely information about the Derwish show / Malls / Turkish Hammam. The hotel rooms were clean and comfortable with modern furniture, which was great as I had to do some work during my stay there - unfortunately. I stayed in this Hotel over New Year Period. Hotel rooms were clean and modern. Staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel is in a great position, close to all the action and also the Metro to get around. Will stay here on my next visit to Istanbul.

If you are an Elite Plus member, forget about this hotel - they don't even know what that means! There is no familiarity with the program - you will be treated as a hinderance more than as a VIP. "VIP Access" means nothing to these people. In fact, I was downgraded not upgraded - booked a king size bed and got two singles. After much negotiation they […] agreed to arrange a different room for me - they put two single beds together and called it a king. But the bed linen was still two singles! And my room had a window looking out to... nothing! The wall of the building next door, just one foot away. The people are nice, and the hotel is OK, but if you are elite plus please do not book this hotel ahead of the other wonderful hotels in Istanbul. You too will be disappointed. Læs mere

The hotel was in a great location. It was very clean and modern. The staff spoke good English. I arranged for an airport transfer with the hotel. It was very convenient but too expensive (40 Euros each way). That would be my only complaint.

Hotel location is very close to Taksim Square, but far enough for you not to get bothered by the noise. I stayed for two nights only. Hotel room is of an OK with 2 single beds, basic facilities and good internet connection. Housekeeping sent me a welcome fruit basket (a nice surprise typically a feature in 5 star establishment) but was a bit disappointed […] that houskeeping did not do my bed. This is a rather nice hotel: very clean, rooms are reasonably large, Suites are amazing. The suite we got was huge, perfectly furnished and equipped with a huge bathroom and a nice jacuzi tub. Positives: great great great location minutes walk to taksim sq, metro, funnicular and istiklal street. Very helpful staff. Negatives: very small room for a family of 4, the room would get cleaned well but small details like replacing dirty coffee cups would be missed. Ac was not effective. I'm currently staying at this hotel and it's very close to many restaurants, shops and attractions near Taksim square. I am having a few issues though. I've been in 5 different rooms in the hotel, each smells of smoke and both of my own "non smoking" rooms has come with an ashtray and matches. My 8th floor room and my 2nd floor room have both been loud […] enough to wake me from a sound sleep at night. Also, the breakfast buffet, although large, doesn't seem to have anything that I enjoy eating, and it's expensive. I was very disappointed because when I did my booking, I informed that I would like room for 4 people and I chose the room types available for 4 people, however when I did my check-in I was told by the hotel manager that the room type that I chose was for 3 people not for 4 and would not be possible to accommodate all in one room and I would need another […] room. This hotel is one of the best kept secrets of Istanbul. Location is phenomenal as it is walking distance to all major sites. The Havas Shuttle Bus from Atatuk Int'l Airport stops 50 metres from Hotel so do not take a cab as it costs 5 times more than the shuttle. I was not really happy with my original room due to the fact I was not able to control […] the temperature of my room as the hotel has central cooling and heating. Being it was winter the heater was on and I hate heaters. The manager took me to a really nice room with beautiful polished floor boards which made the room much cooler. She upgraded me at no charge. The Nippon hotel is located in the heart of Taksim Square near public transportation, restaurants, coffee shops, clothing stores, and various other wonderful ways to spend your time. The Nippon Hotel is in area full of other hotesl, and caters mainly to businessmen, it seems. The service there was excellent. They had arranged for a car to pick us from the airport (not at cheapest rate perhaps, but very convenient as our flight arrived late). I had asked about the possibility of an upgrade, and found when we checked in we were given […] a suite! The room was large and nicely decorated, the bed was huge, the bathroom had both a shower and a bath with jacuzzi. There was complimentary water and a plate of fruit. The hotel is close to Taksim square where you can get a funicular connecting at Kabatas with the tramway into Sultanahmet. I stayed at Nippon Hotel for 5 nights to attend a conference at the ICEC. The hotel locates at a super convenient location. From the Havas bus stop, you can cross the road and walk directly to the hotel within 5 minutes. The hotel front desk staff was very nice. He lent me an adapter during my whole stay for free (I prepared one but it didn't fit). […] Two bottles of water were free. I couldn't see any Japanese staying although the hotel name is 'Nippon Hotel'. Only some of the rooms are named like 'Samurai'. I booked for a King bed but didn't get it. The "Superior room" given to me was quite small with two double beds. I think the hotel could hardly be described as a four star hotel compared to the standard in U.S. or other places. The photos on the website are probably the Suit not the Superior room. There was a funny brochure used when we wanted to change our bedclothes. In it, there was a small writing in red "Please, leave this card on your bed to make your bedclothes changed". Also in this, there was a big writing in green "PLEASE, DO NOT CHANGE MY BEDCLOTHES!". So not matter how we placed this sign, it seems the bedclothes won't be change. There was also another brochure said "WE CARE FOR YOUR HEALTH".
