The room was huge and comfortable. The staff on duty could not find our Expedia booking, but handled it all quickly and with no fuss. The hotel is some distance from the centre of St Andrews. It is one of the grand old hotels in appearance with big foyer and sitting- breakfast room. Breakfast is serve yourself everything and is adequate.

this is a lovely hotel with luxury and convenience. the new wing which we stayed in has comfortable beds and clean roomy bath and kitchenette. the grounds are beautiful and the seacoast town near by is charming. a very good value considering they offered an expanded cont breakfast till late am.

Overall, we liked the Algonquin Hotel. The front desk staff was cheerful, friendly, and very helpful. The older part of the hotel is undergoing renovation (we were told they should be done by June 2013), but our room in the newer part was clean, comfortable, spacious, and a great deal for the money!! Very comfortable. Unfortunately, there was some renovation work going on at the time which may have accounted for the very ordinary breakfast. I do like eggs for breakfast and this was not on the menu - otherwise very good.

The hotel is undergoing a major renovation and there is of course some understandable disruptions but giving allowance for that, this is simply an incredible "classic" hotel. A must if travelling in souther New Brunswick. The main dining room was closed and we had to travel to the golf clubhouse for dinner. The meal and the service were 4 star.

The hotel is under major renovation is cannot be properly judged.We were on a holiday of 8 days which included Hiltons, Deltas and Best Westerns. So disappointed lounge bar and restaurant were closed due to renovation - was offered complimentary self service limited toast and pastries in reception area (no orange juice for example). Don't pretend to give a five star experience when half your establishment is closed.

While the hotel was in the midst of a major renovation, I found the room very nice and staff very hospitable. It was very quiet due to most of the hotel being out of service. The continental breakfast was OK. It is our third time staying at the hotel and we love it. I look forward to seeing the completed Algonquin next summer.

I fell in love with the town of St. Andrew and this hotel... the hotel is currently undergoing renovations, but they take the care not to disrupt your stay with the construction.... I highly recommend this property and area for sure~

The hotel is older, but well kept and very clean. The rooms are large and comfortable.

the rooms were great - clean and very comfortable. The view from the windows was not as good. the swimming pool was very good - warmest water we ever swam in - anywhere! the hotel is in need of a major workover. the main building is falling down, quicker than the repairs that are going on at this time. it will take a lot of money and work to restore […] this beautiful resort to what it was 10+ years ago. the grounds are not kept up (shrub and flower beds are in need of work.) This is a nice old hotel which is currently under construction. This did not detract from my room or expectations at all. Currently the Algonquin is using their golf club as their restaurant facilities. Apart from the short drive this is a good alternative. The food was good and priced appropriately. While our room was quite lovely and well equipped, with the exception of this newer wing, the rest of the hotel is sadly worn and undergoing serious renovation. Besides the pool, the only "feature" was a continental breakfast, served in the lobby. The cheapest of paper plates, flimsy plastic silverware, and store bread in plastic bags was a poor contrast […] to the nice bathrobe we found in our room. To reach the dining room, you had to drive to the golf course, or walk 30 minutes. With the exception of the pleasant woman who checked us in, the front desk staff was not friendly and responded to our questions with cold reluctance, such as when we asked for a map to the Golf Course. This is a grand old dame of a hotel, which other than the front porch, looks almost abandoned. Enjoy your lovely room, but don't have any other expectations. Læs mere

We were most impressed with the restorations-to-date. The annex (51 rooms) is beautiful. Updating of the main building is currently underway, which should bring this facility back to its original glory. Currently, there are no dining services, but the town has many nearby (within walking distance) restaurants. The overall location is beautiful. YOU SHOULD NOT BOOK GUESTS AT THE ALQONQUIN AT THIS TIME. A NEW COMPANY BOUGHT THE PROPERTY AND HAS CLOSED DOWN THE MAIN PORTION OF THE HOTEL. ONLY 51 OF THE 250 ROOMS ARE IN USE. The Alconquin is a grand hotel but was disappointed that it did nto have a restaurant on the premises. I enjoyed my stay but , felt that I would have prefered a hotel closer to the water --since it would have been closer to the stores and restaurant and would have had a view of the Bay.

The room was very nice. It looked clean, but we found several potato chips on the run (that weren't ours) which indicated that it hadn't been vacuumed. The bathroom was large & clean, There was a small refrigerator and microwave and a table & 4 chairs. The hotel is closing in Oct. for renoavations and won't be open again until June. This is a beautiful historic hotel. Beautiful decor and great special features. Our room was spacious, clean and very comforable. The hotel grounds are beautiful.

Our room was in the new building and it was very nice, very large, very quiet with a peek view of the ocean. The AC/Heating worked very well and the linens and beds were very comfortable. The room had a small kitchen and a very nice bathroom, perfect for a long stay. The room was on OK as far as being clean, but certainly acceptable. I can understand […] the reason because the room was never cleaned in the two nights that we stayed there. We saw the cleaning staff working on our floor, but they never made it by our room. We called the desk twice and were told that they were under-staffed, but room service would be there. They never made it. We had to make an emergency run to the desk for toilet paper at 7:00 PM, very stressful! We asked The Fairmont group for some consideration with regard to the lack of room service and were denied. Thankfully, Hotels,com stepped up and made things right. It is such a shame that the Fairmont Group cannot get it right. What could have been a spectacular stay ended up being only so-so. Læs mere

The Fairmont Algonquin was a nice historic place to stay for the money. Just remember it is an old inn but very charming.

I booked and prepaid for smoking room with fire place. When arrive, was in a separate building with non-smoking room with no fire place. Was not what was avertised at all.

The Algonquin is a beautiful old hotel. The main building has very nice rooms but really needs some work. Peeling paint in bathroom ceilings etc. Nothing that appears serious but with the prices charged it should be immaculately kept. The newer Prince of Wales wing is also very nice, more modern since it's only 20 years old, and more comfortable. As […] of Dec. 31st Fairmont will no longer run this hotel. Since it's a provincial property let's hope that the province does some serios updating of the property. It's just too beautiful to let it go!! I love staying here and will come back again and again. A comfortable stay in a large property which is in need of some TLC. Meals were on the expensive side and quality did not reflect price. Service was wonderful, though. All staff try their best to make the stay memorable.

If we had gone at a different time of year, we probably would have enjoyed ourself. Beautiful hotel. Very old. We had no a/c and it was warm and very muggie. There was to much clutter in the room decor to give it it's "victorian" feel, so it left very little room for your own things. Felt cramp and with the sticky air, we were not happy at all.

it is apparent from the lack of investment in the exterior of this hotel that it no longer fits in the Fairmont model. It is a wonderful experiance to visit St Andrews and the Algonquin just enhances that.

A lovely hotel in a quiet, charming town. About a 10 min walk away from the main tourist / waterfront area and about 5 min walk away from Kingsbrae Gardens. Room was beautiful, and came with small kitchenette...microwave & fridge. Outdoor swimming pool in front of the hotel was heated. Great place to retreat from the fast pace of the city.

A charming town with lot's of character and good restaurants. The hotel grounds and public areas are beautiful. We were assigned an older room. I got the impression no guests had stayed in that particular room for a while as there were cob webs here and there. The hotel is old and our room showed wear. We stayed here one night on our way along the Funday Coast. The hotel is very majestic looking and the lobby is fabulous with old architecture and all the staff were very friendly. Many people around walking their dogs, playing with their children, and there's a firepit they lit nightly to sit around. In one word: Excellent. Our one night stay at the Algonquin was outstanding. It will not be our last visit. The hotel is very beautiful with a great history. The service was excellent. The cuisine is world class. I strongly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to spend a bit of time in a rich and pleasant historical surrounding. Thank You

After reading some reviews on here... I was a little skeptic about booking but did anyways. The building might be old but still has that Fairmont charm. Hotel room was comfortable with sea breeze blowing in. Ended up having a great dinner at The Library overlooking the ocean. And as always, service was perfect. Yes, its the not the Banff Springs, nor […] the Empress. But I love staying in these historic hotels with great service and would recomment this one to anybody! Læs mere
