We stayed at La Mariposa for $90 a night - an absolute bargain for the quality of the hotel. Views of Arenal are stunning and the grounds are very well kept. La Mariposa doesn't have hot springs but for what you save you can go to a bunch of different hot springs several times. Ask for a cabin closer to the volcano; those have the best views. The LaMariposa has beautiful views and very friendly and helpful staff. We happened to stay over a weekend with weddings both nights. As a result, we did not get any sleep as the party went on all night. The rooms are clean and spacious. The Wi-Fi (in room or lobby) did not work during our stay. La Mariposa Hotel is set on the highest peak in Manuel Antonio. The views from our room (#10 and #9) were amazing, like a postcard! The views from the pool and dining area were the amazing as well. Great view with frindly, helpful staff. Breakfast buffet is excellent. Dined one night at the hotel. All our dishes were delicious. Dinner menu prices are in the $15-$30 range which is typical of resort dining. Difficult to get wi-fi unless you're near the front desk. Hotel bus transportation ran smoothly and on time.

It was a nice enough hotel, but lacked the amenities to back up the high price tag, especially when there are so many other hotels in the area. Pros: Service was stellar, the view was amazing, and the restaurant was great. Cons: the room was spartan: lots of space, but nothing on the walls, thin, terrible mattresses, only a sheet for bedding; the bathroom […] was full of ants and seemed to be crumbling (the tiles were in bad shape), the shower was dark and had little water pressure, and the in-room Wi-fi was nearly non-existent. Steven greeted us with a complimentary bottle of wine for our 25th wedding anniversary. Maria was such a big help with all my questions. La Mariposa is very pretty, up high on the hill overlooking the water, with infinity pool and nice landscaping. The room had a great view as well but the decor is very odd and doesn't fit with the atmosphere (contemporary Euro style) - bed not very comfortable and the bathroom very dark with the black cement walls. The shuttle to the beach area only ran once in morning and once in afternoon, would have liked more continuous shuttle service so that we didn't have to take taxis everywhere. Everything was great. Yes it is a bit expensive but totally worth the price. Amazing views. We walked to the beach some times, but honestly....the views were so good that we preferred to just hang out in the patio. The breakfast was amazing too. Will definitely stay here if I return.

The location of the hotel is really handy for the local area. Its set on a hill which is easy to reach and this means one of the best views in the Manuel Antonio area. I had room 40 which was nicely furnished, comfortable big bed and amazing view. The view was stunning from the room view to the pool view. I just gotta say, It's too expensive for what it is, however no doubt is one of the best hotels in the area. Its most important asset would be its staff, it from another league!!!. We loved the Mariposa! The location of the hotel is what makes it so wonderful. The view from the hotel is of the entire Manuel Antonio Beach. Our room was on the top floor and you could see forever. Don't ask for upper floors if you're scared of heights. The way to the room was a spiral metal outdoor staircase. The pool was very refreshing and nice […] to come back to after sightseeing. We hired a guide from the hotel to take us to Manuel Antonio Park. It was well worth it because he saw things that we wouldn't have been able to spot. This hotel is overrated, our stay was so disappointing. The room was dismal, very uncomfortable bed. Hotels.com says "Signature bedding". Huh? The bedding was ultra cheap and the pillow covered in a plasticky cover that made the pillowcase fall off. We had to climb a few flights of stairs to get to the room, the stairs are slippery in the rain so unsafe […] with children. The only good thing was that someone carried our luggage up for us. The view from the hotel down in the pool area is beautiful. But from our room, the only way to see the ocean view is to sit at the very edge of the tiny balcony. Not at all what I saw in the photos on this website when I made the nonrefundable reservation. The photo here shows more windows in the room. There was an ashtray in our non-smoking room. The man at the front desk confirmed that all the rooms should be non-smoking. Later, another employee at the front desk said that our room did allow smoking, and this was a room advertised as non-smoking. They need to get their story straight. The shower only produced cold water, and was mildewy with the shower head loose from the wall. We took very short showers as it was cold and gross in there. There was a very bright light on all night long, which shone through the window above the door, and there was no way to turn it off or cover the window. I was surprised that they charged me for local calls , since the other hotels in CR didn't charge us. Læs mere

Had a fantastic stay. The room was awsome. Stayed there 2 other times. First time in main building and room was spacious and view can't be beat. Breakfast was very good with great service at the pool swim up bar. The new pizza restaurant was excellent. The chef and waiter were great. Both visited our table several times to check on our satisfaction. […] The chef was entertaining and the best pizza guy around. Infinity pools were clean and very relaxing. You cannot beat the location of this hotel. Absolutely stunning views of the Pacific from the restaurant and pool area. This alone is worth the stay. Check in was a little slow and the staff wasn't as nice as other places we stayed during the week. The breakfast buffet was good but the food otherwise was not great and overpriced. Amazing views - both in the morning of Manuel Antonio Nat'l Park, and in the evening with spectacular sunsets. This was my second trip to costa rica first stay at mariposa. The location is great. About 5 Klm to Manuel Antonio national park. The staff is over good. Bartender was very nice. The staff greets you with a nice cold drink. The front desk is very small. So they can't see you when you drive up hense no help with the bags. My only complaint would be the […] beds. Very uncomfortable. They are hard and so are the pillows. The spiral stairs are noisy so you can hear every time guess come up and down the stairs. I would sty here again per the location. P. my wife and i spent three nights there, we took my parents and we had a good time, the staff, with the exception of a couple rotten apples, was very pleasant, i had a bad first impression at our arrival since there was no one there to help us out with our bags, or someone to direct us to the front desk, which after driving for three hours plus would've […] been very helpful and welcoming, but no. However they made up for this by upgrading both my parents' and our rooms to parcial ocean view and full ocean view respectively. over all our experience there was good, and the only reason why i wouldnt stay there again is their uuncomfortable matresses, fix that and i would definetaly stay there again. free wi fi in the bedrooms was also nice and convinient. The view from our room was spectacular! (53) Absolutely breathtaking! The people who worked there were very nice. Small little issues, such as calling the front desk for extra pillows and never getting them. We asked the next day again and it was taken care of immediately. The control for our fridge was broken, so everything we put in froze. We didn't […] complain, as the beverages thawed quite quickly ounce we went outside on our balcony. A little bit of a walk uphill to get from the main road to the hotel entrance but since we are on a mountain this was to be expected. Breakfast buffet was your typical buffet and nothing to write home about and the one dinner we had was very good - Seafood platter for two. We chose to eat at other restaurants in the area for most meals. Pools were a little green - due to algae but nothing too serious. Beautiful hotel with extrordinary views, Hotel staff very helpful and courteous. A bit pricy for the quality of the room I stayed in, however pools and grounds were wonderful. I would stay again despite price because the views and facilities were so nice.
