Tried saving money here, and did, but spent $20 each way cabbing to yale, so factor that in. Not overly friendly staff, and eclectic guests, but safe and clean.

The rate was excellent, and the rooms were quite nice. The only challenge was the corridors upstairs, which need new carpet. Otherwise the place was clean, wi-fi worked great and the people are quite responsive to customer needs. Not somewhere for a holiday, but definately somewhere to stay if you're only in the city for a few days!

Super comfortable bed. Had HBO on the TV. Close to I-95 but not loud. 5 minutes from beach. Next door to Pizza Hut. Good deal.

I was a little wary of booking my stay at EconoLodge because I thought it would be shady/dirty/old. However, I booked it anyway due to the great price and proximity to the VA hospital. Although the hotel lobby looked a bit run-down and the employees greet you from behind a glass wall (not very welcoming), the room was extremely clean and the bed was […] very comfortable. A sign out front said the motel was recently renovated, and indeed everything in the room seemed to be pretty new. The area immediately surrounding EconoLodge is a little dated/run-down, but there is a Pizza Hut right around the corner, and a little ways up the road is a Denny's and a barbequeue joint. The hotel is decent and the interior looks OK. It was a bit hard to find and the GPS navigated me to a different place first. The room was cold but the heater was working so it wasrmed up eventually.

I stayed two nights. The bed was a bit hard, so I had troule sleeping. The room was clean, but the second day they didn't clean the bathroom well - washcloth left in shower. There was also no holder for the toilet paper. The continental breakfast was good, but the second day there was no coffee except decaf.

My boyfriend and I stayed here when we had no power. We came from Sherman, CT to the only place with power. It was a decent motel, but we asked for a non smoking room and we still got the smell of smoke in our room somehow through the vents. Very irritating, but it was pretty quiet and comfortable.

A work in progress. The inside of our room was wonderful. The walkways, elevators, stairs and common areas need a complete overhaul. The staff did the best they could while renovations are taking place.

Pleasantly surprised. Would use again. Would like protein choices for breakfast before big meeting. Everything else great for price!

This hotel is okay for an overnight stay, but I noticed that it felt like I was going to fall through the floor outside on the second floor. This needs to be addressed before someone gets hurt.

The hotel was great. The staff was even better. The only thing I would say is that we chose a smoking room because there was nothing else available and the smell was really unbearable. The staff did provide us with Febreeze which was really nice but I would suggest making it a non smoking hotel. That would make the entire experience well worth it.

Room was very clean, with a very capable air conditioner since temp outside was close to 100 degrees! Average continental breakfast, but at least the milk was cold. Clothing irons had to be accessed through the front desk, which is a hassle, but all in all, a good stay.

I went to CT for a family reunion. The location is great. The elevator didn't work sometimes. The side door that was supposedly a keyed lock stayed unlocked all the time and my daughter slipped on their steps because there was no rug or wet floor sign. The bathroom smelled a little musty but all in all the room was clean. Housekeeping came at 8:30am […] and when asked if she'd come back in an hour the reply was, "No come back." My husband "strongly encouraged" her to come back and she did. The room was cleaned. The continental breakfast was ok, and typical. There is a lot of traffic because it's right by the interstate, but we still slept well. All in all, it was an ok stay, a little overpriced for what it was in my opinion, but ok. Læs mere

The entire building needs serious maintenance and improvement. We saw a big sign saying this hotel is "under new management." I don't know whether the problem is a result of old management or not though. The two rooms we stayed at smelled heavy smoking while we chose (and they are marked as) non-smoking rooms. That said, the free breakfast was very […] good for the rate, and the management seems nice, as they changed rooms for us based on our request, though the change did not lead to very satisfactory results. Tv reception was bad with an old TV. Watered down oj for breakfast, and there was no fresh fruit. Waffles were good!

Although I booked a smoke free room this room was NOT smoke free. Two other families traveling with us staying at the same hotel said the same thing. If it had not been raining and late I would have walked out. It kept us up and made my daughter feel sick. I turned on the air conditioner to try to get rid of the smell but I think the filter was so dirty […] that it still smelled awful. Læs mere

Heat was turned off, I had to call to get it turned on. It was 12 degrees outside !!! Think the room was warm?

Our room smelled like smoke even though it was a non-smoking room. Also the noise from the nearby highway kept me up most of the night. The staff was pleasant, but I don't think I'd stay there again.

Nothing special here. Very dated room, barely passable in cleanliness if you have low expectation. It's a cheap place to stay.

This is a case of you get what you pay for. The hotel is decent, reasonably clean, but not a 4-star property. The neighborhood is outside of downtown New Haven and not terribly pleasing to the eyes, but didn't cause me any concerns about safety. We did have a problem with the plumbing in the room and the maintenance man came within 10 minutes and fixed […] the problem efficiently and cheerfully. Læs mere

I stayed here with 2 of my friends on the weekend we graduated from Southern. We went out and needed an inexpensive yet decent place to crash. It was only about 3 miles from Crown/ Center street in New Haven so we were able to take a cab from the club without having to pay a fortune. We were a little worried about how it would look since it was so […] inexpensive. To our surprise, the room was perfect. The linen smelled freshly washed and everything was clean. I was shocked at how nice our room was. The bathroom was nice as well. Anndd we weren’t only thinking this since we were drunk because when we woke up the next morning, it was still a great room LOL The complimentary breakfast was a big plus too! I would highly recommend Econo Lodge and will definitely stay again :) Læs mere

The room was a smoking room even though I specifically asked for a non-smoking room. Also, the key kept malfunctioning. I had to have them reactivate the key three times.

too expensive for the confort provided. bad sound insulation. I stayed here because it was the only place I found available even if I booked it 6 months ahead of time for my son"s graduation. If you are planning to attend Yale graduation book your reservations a year ahead of time if you want to stay in a better place for the same price.

For a two-star, this hotel was pretty good. I had a big room with a king-sized bed, everything was clean except for the leather chair (had some stains). Wifi didn't work, however. Overall though, it's convenient (right off 95) and I would definitely stay there again.
