The Viking is ideal to all things Newport. Seemed to be centrally located in town, yet close enough to walk to all historical attractions, as well as the harbor life two blocks down the hill. Was truly a great experience at the Viking. Simple, elegant, fantastic.

Just one complaint was that you really can hear your neighbors like they were in the room with you. Overall, it's a nice hotel with friendly service and excellent location. Also, no need to valet park. plenty of street parking available around the corner of the hotel.

I was very happy with this Hotel especially the location. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They went above and beyond what was expected. When I didn't know how to raise the heat in my room instead of telling (which is what I asked and expected) the maintence man came and showed me personnally and stayed to make sure it was actually working. This hotel was wonderful! The rooms are elegant, and it is in a perfect location to visit all Newport visitor sites. It is a short walk to the wharf (5 min. or less) and a Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks for morning treats. There is no complimentary breakfast included, only coffee. For reasons uncertain, someone walked into our room (it may have been our […] mistake for leaving the door slightly ajar.) An hour later, a hotel attendant brought us a bottle of wine, 2 wine glasses, and a platter of cheese for our "inconvenience." Parking is difficult and expensive in Newport. The hotel offers a parking lot for $30 a day. There are probably cheaper alternatives, though. I would definitely stay here again. Læs mere

Our stay was too short. We didn't get to enjoy the amenities, but will definitely return. Beautiful place and neighborhood. Staff was excellent. Room was clean and beautiful. The breakfast was not out of this world but convenient.

Our first room had a very strong odor of what smelled like urine on the carpet which looked like it had just been cleaned. There was also a very strong odor of air freshened; I assume to disguise the urine odor. We asked for another room and were promptly given one.

The hotel staff was great, especially Gavin! Super helpful and took great care of us. The hotel needs to invest in curtains for the rooms though. It's hard to sleep when the light pours in from the shades.

Loved it! Would highly recommend the stay. The food at the on site restuarant was one of the best meals I've ever had.

The area has a very colonial feel with the old churches, homes from the 1700's, cobble stone and brick roads.The lobby was perfect, the door men and clerks were right on cue...the front desk was second to none. The hotel is nestled with in walking distance to downtown Newport, Starbucks is a 5 minute walk away. You can lose your wife in all the surrounding […] little shops and boutiques...I almost did. I am sure your wife or girlfriend wouldn't appreciate what you are thinking right now. Fine Print: The Viking is aptly named because in every little way the hotel intentioned to raid ones wallet. $ 15 - $ 28 dollars a day to park your car...$ 3.00 K Cup (in room coffee brewer)...$ 4.00 kit kat (in room snack). We orderd an in room movie. It was Tower Heist with the guy from night in the muesem and Eddie Murphy. The ordering info said it would be $ 16.00, when we got the bill it was $ 19.00. Rooms are small but very nice. Bathroom really is tiny - sink is only a half sink, nice shower though. Park on the street for free - don't get sucked into paying for their "valet" parking. Pool, hot tub, and fitness area are nice. Overall definitely a step up from the Comfort/Quality Inn type of place. We didn't eat at the restaurant, based on others […] comments of it being overpriced and not too good. My son and I had a lovely time at the hotel. Management was very helpful. Dinner was also excellent and the breakfast room bright and cheery. I would definitely recommend another stay.

Absolutely terrific! Staff are so nice and helpful that you truly wonder what medication they are taking. It is a step back in time where service is everything! What a breath of fresh air!

We really enjoyed the 1920s "old-school" nature of this hotel, which was comfortable yet elegant. Our only real complaint was that when we entered our room, it was so cold inside! Clearly, the heat hadn't been turned on for a while, nor had the staff turned it on in anticipation of our arrival. The Hotel Viking was just the right touch in making our vacation just a little more special. Very pleasant staff along with a very elegant room. Unfortunalty we didnt try the food or bar but the stay was very comfortable and I would recommend to everyone to try it out.

We have stayed at this hotel before and enjoyed our stay. This last visit we found the room set up less than par....the shower/toilet room wasn't big enough to turn around in and the sink/vanity was no bigger and there was little to no water pressure in the sink either.

Breakfast was poor and breakfast service was slow. Rooms were clean and well appointed but we were able to hear noises from other rooms

The Viking is a beautiful old hotel with an accommodating staff and lovely spa. Our room was spacious (except for the bathroom) and beautifully decorated. The mattresses were a little mushy, but everything else about the room was great. The restaurant is delicious but a little understaffed as it took a long time to get room service and to get seated […] in the restaurant. We were extremely pleased with the comfortable queen beds and room decor. The shower was the best and the dispensers of shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner had a great scent! I spent a most enjoyable weekend at this Hotel. From my arrival til my departure I was treated very specially. The room was way more beautiful and comfortable than I expected at a small hotel. Al lovely Hotel, centrally located in Newport. The rooms are very small and the bathrooms have the smallest sinks I have ever encountered. Parking is located across the street and has an extra charge. The beds are comfortable.

Allthough the staff was very friendly and helpfull it can not make up for the small room or the bad steak I couldn't eat on New Years Eve. The room so small that I had to bend down to see my self in the mirror to shave.

My boyfriend and I went to stay in Newport at The Hotel Viking for MLK weekend. We ordered room service; it was so bad, it made me vomit. It's fair to say that I have never in my life been served food that bad before. The food took over an hour to get to our room, it was cold, inedible, and over priced. So even though the hotel gives you a coupon at […] check-in for their overpriced restaurant, my bf and I, still recovering from the room service disaster, decided to opt out. Since there was no sign or indication that we would be charged, my boyfriend and I indulged in what appeared to be complimentary coffee in the room and read the newspaper that automatically was delivered to our room every morning. During check-out, we learned that we were charged for both and additionally charged per day for us to park in the hotel parking lot across the street. Mind you, we did not visit Newport during tourist season- it was 30 degrees and in mid-January. Our internet connection went out one day while we were there, and the concierge did not know how to handle the situation. She simply gave us the phone number to AT&T, and told us to call them. We were eager to get a couple's massage at the spa until another guest told us it was not worth the price, so decided not to risk being disappointed about yet another thing. The good parts of our stay was the magnificent bed, beautiful view, and great location. Even though it was cold, there was still plenty for a young couple to do, like go on the cliff walk along the water, visit the beach, go on the tour of the mansions, visit the art museum, go to a comedy show at the firehouse theater, drive (40mins) to Providence for the day, and there were lots of cute shops, bars, and restaurants too! The coffee was so amazing at Ocean Coffee Roasters, we needed to take some home with us; the food and service was so incredible at Brick Alley, we could have eaten there every day; the fish & chips at Fastnet Pub were the best we'd ever had, and the sea Læs mere

I loved the stay here. Clean and close to everything. I would definitely recommend this to others as well. The staff super helpful and friendly. If you're headed to Newport, this is the place to stay.

Very confortable. But very disappointed when I wanted to stay for another night. Was told I could not get the same rate for the next night because i booked it online. Checked out and had my daughter go online was the same as last night but I had other choices and chose another hotel on goat island. Was so much better

The hotel rooms were newely renovated since my last stay a few years ago and very nice. I ate dinner and enjoyed a Balinese massage. The dinner was special for the evening and delicious. The massage was wonderful. All in all my husband and I enjoyed our stay at the hotel as much as our previous visit and will, most likely, visit the Hotel Viking again […] when we are in the Newport RI area. Læs mere

The hotel's location was the only good thing. I was a 5 minute walk to all the bars/restaurants, BUT the room was so small it barely fit the king bed, and the bathroom was a closet, the shower door couldn't even open all the way. A bigger person would not have fit. The pool/hot tub were junky. And the WORST part about it was the $35 per person breakfast […] buffet that was inedible. I basically eat everything and am not picky but even I thought it couldn't have been worse. Other than the gross buffet it really bugged me that they put out packaged oatmeal with hot water to make your own. For $35 /person they couldn't make some good oatmeal?!?!?!?! Ugh, we were so mad about the breakfast. They should have paid us to eat it. Def wouldn't stay there again, but we're not running back to Newport either. Læs mere

charge to make coffee in the room 3$ a kerguig cup not acceptable for a hotel that charges top dollar
