"Two stars for five star prices"
The hotel room was small and outdated. We were one of the lucky ones and got a door and balcony, other guests got a small window. There were rusty barbells in the bathroom, otherwise bathroom was clean. Comforter was disgusting. Restaurant good food, but expensive, you pay for the view. There was a riot taking place in the city, hotel knew we were Americans […] and they did not warn us. Could have been very dangerous! Læs mereÆgte Hotels.com-gæsteanmeldelse
Svar fra St George Lycabettus Hotel Dear Guest, Thank you for your comments. Please allow me to address the points you highlight. All the rooms and suites at the hotel are designed to provide comfort and security. The room rates are based on view and extras such as private balcony. We always work towards providing a range of products to suit various budgets. We are glad that you found the bathroom clean. The hotel is carefully checked continuously to ensure high standards of cleanliness. Thank you for your other observations which have been relayed to the appropriate departments. I should like to stress that peaceful protest in Athens does indeed take place. The route protesters take is carefully planned and monitored . The Greek people welcome all tourists, and the hotel always puts safety first. We hope this assures you of the value we place upon the comfort and safety of all our guests, Kind regards, The Management Team
"Maybe a 5 star hostel but certainly not a hotel"
We could not believe that this hotel was rated as 5 stars. We have stayed at real 5 star hotels and other than the view from our hotel room, there was nothing superior about this place. The room was one of the dingiest hotel rooms I have ever seen. Sure the maids did their best so the place was at least clean but when a hotel is 5 stars I expect 5 stars […] and not 2!!! Major renovations are needed. From the worn-out carpets to the uncomfortable beds the hotel has to be completely gutted. Not to mention that the TV was 17 inches...I thought it was a joke. With that said, Athens is really lacking in decent accommodation which is why this hotel can get away with it and can stay completely booked. I suppose compared to the $700/night rates at other "5 star" Athenian hotels, our rate was extremely reduced, but now I understand why. Læs mereÆgte Hotels.com-gæsteanmeldelse

"Disappointing, pricey, & far from action."
If you want 5 star luxury, find a different hotel - in my opinion, it is a 3 star at best. We booked on Expedia and chose this hotel because we were cruising with Windstar Cruise Line and this was one of the 2 hotels in Athens that they use. Our first room ( atrium view) was two floors below the lobby: shabby, smelly and with a view of a 7 story wall, […] a guano covered roof, and one dead vine. We were given a "better" room which was less shabby, didn't smell and had a view of an ugly apartment building. The rooftop bar and restaurant have a fantastic view but a hamburger cost $ 25 and a local beer $ 12. If you want a vodka and 7-Up, you pay $ 15 for the vodka and $ 5 for the 7-Up. The breakfast buffet cost $ 29 per person. Room service had a 25% extra charge. PRICEY...... Tiny pool, small room, tiny TV with few channels to choose from, no wash clothes, no tissue, no clock, no shower curtain, street noise, awful location. Læs mereÆgte Expedia-gæsteanmeldelse

"5 Star Hotel? Hmmmmmm"
Over all satisfied with Hotel. Who can complain about 100 dollars a night in Athens and in such a great location. No concierge though, which for a 5 star hotel is a little weird and made getting recommendations and trip/car reservations hard. Also had two twin beds instead of just one queen or a king. I know its Europe, but if you are going to do that, […] should have the in the crack pad to make it more comfortable.....Kept finding myself inbetween beds late at night. Wifi was like 20 euro a day in your room....really!???? Little much. Again, overall, for sleeping and cleanliness great. But some things missing for the reputaion and 5 star rating. "2 STARS AT BEST"
The location was awful on top of a hill that took at least 40 minutes to walk up. It was dark and desolate at night. The room was like a dorm room with a minimal view of the Acropolis. The balcony had two dirty plastic chairs and a table. No bathtub and a shower curtain rod that fell on my head and shoulder. WIfi only in the corner of the hotel lobby. […] Breakfast was the saving grace though their placemats were worn out and needed to be replaced. The swimming pool was closed for use and it had only 3 chairs for sitting. The restaurant was closed for an event so I could not get a glass of wine at night. I opened a bottle of wine form the mini bar, pour the wine in a glass and my first sip it was shampoo or bubble bath! This hotel ruined my trip in Athens. I would not recommend it to anyone. Svar fra St George Lycabettus Hotel Dear Guest Laura, Thank you for your feedback. Our location on the slopes of Lycabettus Hill, and in the exclusive district of Kolonaki are regarded by many as the best in the city. For those who do not wish to explore on foot, there is a host of transport choices available to suit all budgets. Our rooms and bathrooms are all well- appointed, and checked daily for maintenance and high levels of hygiene. We offer free Wi Fi in all our public areas plus high speed in-room packages for an extra charge. The hotel clearly states the opening times of our open air pool. The pool bar and deck area offers seating and loungers for our valued guests to soak up the Athenian sunshine. Our function and banqueting rooms are very popular, but La Suite Lounge Bar Restaurant is the ideal choice for a cocktail with spectacular views of the city from the terrace. For drinks in your room, our Room Service department is at your disposal. We are always only too pleased to make your stay a memorable one, Kind regards, The Management Team
A great location - walking distance of Syntagma and Kolonaki squares and Evangelismos metro station, and with shops and restaurants nearby. My room was very good value - by booking advance on a large travel website I got an excellent deal and I had a balcony with acropolis view and private bath, tv etc. Service was good - desk staff were very helpful. […] The only thing missing was internet, which was available in the lobby free of charge but was charged at E6 per hour in my room. (The staff did not tell me about the lobby option - I only learned about it when I overheard other guests talking about it!) It was also great to have the pool to cool off in after a day walking the hot dusty city. Only problem was that walls were very thin and there was quite a lot of noise from neighboring rooms - but this is very common in hotels of all ratings, I have found. "Not as pictured"
I paid a premium for the deluxe balcony Acropolis view room pictured on their web site. When i checked in they told me I had a up hill view which was a standard room. After much conversation, phone calls etc. we got a Acropolis view room but much smaler than pictured. Another member of our party did not pay for the pictured room but got one. Just a […] screwed up process from start to finish. Hotel is just OK and a bit shop worn, so don't pay for anything more deluxe than the standard room. If you want an upgrade, stay elsewhere. "Beautiful hotel. Great view. Magnificent service."
The St George Lycabettus Hotel is a true pleasure to stay at. Perched high on Lycabettus Hill, its dining area offers a sweeping view of Athens, including an awesome view of the Acropolis. The staff is extremely helpful and accommodating, and the rooms are spacious, comfortable and well-appointed. The rooftop pool is another treat, and you're within […] a very short walk of lots of different shops, coffee houses and open-air restaurants. "Nothing like the pictures"
We chose this hotel based on the beautiful pictures of the rooms and the hotel, however it looked nothing like the pictures. We arrived at night so I thought the hotel looked beautiful as we checked in, but by the time we got to our room I could see that the place was in need of updating and was worn. The elevators are very slow. The rooms are narrow […] and uncomfortable. Even though there are chairs and a desk, they are mismatched and not comfortable. The bed was hard and the blankets were not quite large enough for our two twins pushed together to make a king. The bathroom tiles did not match throughout. The regular bathroom door was replaced with a trendy glass door that doesn't quite fit. Our floor was on the 5th floor, which meant it was close enough to the 6th floor to get wi-fi for free, but unfortunately it was also right under the room used for private events and people stomped on the ceiling all night. Just after that starts, the staff starts preparing breakfast so we could hear and smell that too. The staff was rude at this hotel (in contrast to the wonderful people we met everywhere else.) The hotel is also at the top of a very high hill and if you plan on walking, get ready for a hike. You wont want to leave the hotel once you make it to the top. If you book any excursions, most tour buses will not pick up up as they can't make it on the narrow streets. We got a good deal, but it was not worth it at all. "Two stars too many"
I've been staying at the St George for nearly 10 years, and in that time the place has gone downhill fast. It's now a three-star hotel, still charging five-star prices. The bedrooms were always small, but now they're falling to pieces too: the showers leak all over the bathroom floor because nobody's replaced the seals; the duvets are unbuttoned at […] the bottom so come apart while you're asleep; the TVs in some rooms are boxy and don't work; and on the lower floors in particular, the walls are so thin that you may not sleep. But to management, it's as though everything is still hunky-dory: champagne breakfast (that's a bottle of champagne, toast and strawberries) costs 100 euros plus a "discretionary" 25% (!!) service charge; car parking is about 20 euros per day; and wifi is a breathtaking 8 euros per hour - not that you'd be able to do much more than book a ferry ticket within an hour, so slow is the connection. All this is a real shame, since the staff are generally great and the location - panoramic views from central Athens' swankiest neighbourhood - is perfect, at least for those able-bodied enough to climb the steepish hill. But overall, this is nowadays a hotel to avoid. Læs mereÆgte Hotels.com-gæsteanmeldelse

This is a nice hotel overall, but certainly not 5*. Pleasant staff at check-in, but off-hand at check-out. The room was good, except for the lack of extras that are usual in such a hotel, and cheap toiletries. The walls are paper thin as I could hear a telephone conversation from the next room very clearly. "Hotel with an incredible view of Athens"
The hotel has a beautiful ambience and the location is amazing, with views of the Acropolis. Staff were pleasant & helpful and the breakfast was very good. The main difficulty of this hotel is the design of the room. There was little storage - despite having cabinets bedside and for the TV, none of these opened to use for storage. Also, the bathroom […] design was not comfortable - not a full shower closure but a half-glass door and the lighting over the vanity was harsh and uncomfortable. These features would not outweigh the location and ambience of the hotel, but they were annoying. Although at first it seemed that the hotel was a bit out of the way, we discovered that it was actually pretty convenient to many Athens neighborhoods and sites. But it is up on the hill, so if someone doesn't like to walk uphill, it could be a problem, although taxis were readily available. Læs mereÆgte Expedia-gæsteanmeldelse

"Hotel with an expensive view."
The hotel is very nice with numerous amenities expected at a 5-star hotel, and the staff at the hotel were fabulous - they went out of their way several times to help us. However, the rooms are very small and the furniture in the rooms appear to have been purchased based on appearance and were not functional in these small rooms. We had to move furniture […] around several times to get through the room and/or open the door to the balcony. We paid extra for a "deluxe view room" thinking we would have a view of the Acroplis, but instead had a vew of the construction site next door. The Acropolis view room was even more money, but that wasn't clear at the time I booked the reservation. The view from the roof is spectacular, but the food in the restaurant was very expensive. My parents had breakfast one day at $22 euros each #almost $60 American#. Also, they closed the pool deck #top floor# before sunset so you couldn't go up there for the night view. This is one of those hotels that looks great in the lobby. I had to move rooms because the first room I got smelled like an ashtray. They were very fast, and moved me right away. The TV did not work. The room smelled musty. Those things didn't bother me.... as much as the two (yes, TWO) times that the showerhead fell on me while I was showering. The […] first time, I thought maybe it slipped and it was an accident. It hit me in the middle of my shower, right on top of my head. I didn't bother to tell the staff about it because I thought maybe it was a one-time thing. But, the next morning, the same thing happened. The toilet would not flush very well- you had to pump the handle to make it work. The food was mediocre, overpriced - except for breakfast. The view in the breakfast room is indeed wonderful, and the food is good. Not great, but definitely good. I will say, that when I complained to the manager in the morning, he was apologetic and very nice. He asked what he could do to make it up to me. But I also didn't care much since I was checking out. The staff was very good - polite, concerned, and asked how they could help. The room was immaculate and the cleaning staff did a great job. But overall, I would definitely not stay here again. Paying too much for internet, suffering through the bathroom annoyances - sadly not worth it just for nice staff and a good breakfast. Læs mereÆgte Hotels.com-gæsteanmeldelse
"An excellent, well located hotel"
I really liked this hotel. The service was friendly and efficient, and the rooftop pool was a delight to return to after a hot day in the cityÆgte Expedia-gæsteanmeldelse
The hotel is old and tired. We had mold in our bathroom and the room hasn't been updated in 10 years. The TV set was older than I was. We did have a great view of the Accropolis but the noise from the restaurant/bar below us was really loud. This is no where near a 5 star hotel.Ægte Hotels.com-gæsteanmeldelse
"St George Lycabettus Athens"
Was pleased with the hotel's location, we were able to walk everywhere (we only took one taxi) and there were plenty of good restaurants and cafes nearby. The rooftop pool was fine - a small area but good to be able to have a dip. The room ( a superior view room) was pretty standard, quite small and the views weren't really worth it. Felt more 4star […] than 5, as with most Greek hotels. Læs mereÆgte Hotels.com-gæsteanmeldelse
My little brother and I needed to book a hotel right when we arrived in Greece. We saw this hotel and it was rated 5*. The hotel is on a hill and a good 15 min walk to shopping. About 5 mins to food. Take note this is on a hill so climbing back up is not exactly the best experience. The staff were friendly and we paid for an upgrade to a suite. The […] food was quite pricey so we opted for the local cuisine. The hotel is quite old but has its charm. Great stay! Læs mereÆgte Hotels.com-gæsteanmeldelse
"Nice facilities/location, noisy and uncomfortable"
- nice facilities and location - nice restaurant and views over Acropolis - very firm and uncomfortable bed - very noisy: exterior (cars plus road works) and interior (you could hear the music/chats, shouts, shower from 2-3 rooms across)Ægte Hotels.com-gæsteanmeldelse
Læs mereÆgte Expedia-gæsteanmeldelse
"Just an old hotel..."
There was no room service after 1 am... The staff was not friendly at all... The room was very old, with not many facilities... There wasn't even radio in the room... The balcony had a very dirty and old table, with 2 disgusting chairs... The bathroom was very dirty and old... Even the shower gels and the shampoos were the cheapest with a very bad smell... […] When I had the checkout, a very bad incident took place also... There was an alcoholic lady that she was screaming to the people and she was smashing things in the hotel... Nobody stopped her... The reception staff didn't call even the security of the hotel... I would never be back to this hotel... Læs mereÆgte Hotels.com-gæsteanmeldelse
