The Powell Hotel - San Francisco

Powell Hotel er superbiliggende,downtown San Francisco. Hotellet er noget slidt,der er stor forskel på værelserne og rengøringen lader noget tilbage at ønske.

Forvent ikke luksus. Vores værelse havde udsigt til en skakt. Intet køleskab og lidt tvivlsom rengøring. Meget hjælpsom reception og og rigtigt god placering med masser af spisesteder lige rundt omkring og tæt på offentlig transport. Et fint valg hvis man ikke lægger meget stor vægt på selve hotellet.

Da vi ankom til hotellet fik vi et værelse tildelt, hvor vindueskarmene var malet til, så ingen vinduer kunne åbnes, der var ingen udsugning på værelset, og der var ikke gjort ordentligt rent efter de forrige gæster (der lå bl.a. en efterladt tube creme på gulvet). Derudover var den direkte udsigt (og dominernede lydkilde) hotellets store centrale aircon-anlæg. Vi […] bad om et andet værelse, og fik det uden diskussion. Desværre måtte vi tilbage til receptionen 4 gange, før det lykkes manden i skranken at give os et nøglekort, der rent faktisk kunne låse døren op. Af de 4-5 ansatte vi havde kontakt med, var der kun én, der virkede kompetent og gik op i at yde service, Selvom den daglige rengøring af hotellet og værelset var fin nok, havde vinduer og vindueskarme ikke været rengjort i flere måneder! Til gengæld blev gangarealerne flere gange rengjort, højlydt, omkring kl. 23:30. Det gratis internet var ubrugeligt, da man enten ikke kunne få adgang til det, og når det en sjælden gang skete, var forbindelsen meget langsom. Internettet virker kun brugbart på fællesarealerne. Der er meget lydt på hele hotellet, og da vores værelse lå direkte over en af butikkerne i gadeplan, havde vi fornøjelsen af høj musik fra 8 morgen til 22 aften - hver dag. Dertil kom den generelle støj fra gaden, da vinduerne på ingen måde sluttede tæt, og derfor ikke gav nogen lydisolation. Hotellet ligger i udkanten af det "pæne" kvarter, og man skal kun ganske få gader sydpå, før man er i et meget utrygt og fattigt kvarter. Hotellet ligger helt perfekt, dog er værelserne ikke ret store!

Vi fik tildelt et værelse i et hjørne af bygningen, og der var usædvanlig koldt denne sommer, hvorfor vi frøs en del om natten. Værelset havde en meget lille radiator, men der var ikke tændt for centralvarmen. Hotellets personale leverede dog straks en varmeblæser til værelset, og det klarede problemet. Dobbeltsengene er meget små i såvel længde som […] bredde, jeg måler selv 1,85 og havde mine tæer stikkende ud over fodenden. Det var ikke rart. Restauranterne i området, John's Grill og Puccini og Pinetti, er meget anbefalesesværdige. Hotellet tilbyder valetparkering, som det - ganske som alle andre hoteller i området - tager sig godt betalt for. Det er billigere selv at parkere bilen i et af de nærliggende parkeringshuse men se dig godt for. Fint hotel, med små, men fine værelser og behageligt stort badeværelse... Fri adgang til internet. Selvom der ikke er køkken på hotellet, kan der købes morgenmad i en integreret cafe i hotellets lobby. Sporvognene kører lige uden for døren, ligesom butikker for enhver smag... Et godt hotel, med fine værelser til prisen. Personalet var godt nok (omvendt hvad man ellers er vant til i USA) ret arrogant, men vi kan jo alle have en dårlig dag. Der er cabelcar vendeplads lige ude for døren, så transport til seværdighederne er meget nemt. Endvidere en stor shoppinggade også lige ude for døren. San Francisco er en by i den øvre […] prisklasse for amarikanske byer, det mærker man bl.a. hvis man har brug for en parkeringsplads under opholdet.... Men man har intet at bruge bilen til i SF, så spar pengene og afhent den evt. når du forlader byen. Alt i alt et fint hotel til prisen, der er en god balance mellem kvalitet og kostpris. Læs mere

I really enjoyed my stay at The Powell Hotel! If location is important to you, this hotel might be the best in town. It's located at the corner of Powell Street and Market Street with many experience opportunities within walking distance. Take a walk in SF downtown just by stepping out the front door. The Powell St Cable Car has it's end-of-line stop […] just outside the hotel and it will take you to the Pier area. Across the street you will find bus and train stops including BART. So for most tourist attractions you don't need a car in SF if you stay at this hotel. BTW - just across the street you will also find SF's largest shopping center. There are only two downsides of this hotel. The valet parking is a bit expensive, and there is not a restaurant in the hotel. There is though a small coffe shop where you can buy breakfast. But with so many dining possibilities within walking distance, I never really missed a in-hotel restaurant. The staff is very friendly and helpful! The Powell Hotel will also be my choice of hotel for my next SF visit... Læs mere

I needed a room on short notice and found this room on Hotels.com. The front desk staff was very nice and ended up giving me a 2 room suitevin the top floor. All amenities were great and the room was extrememly clean. It is right outside the Cable car turn around and Union Square. I would stay here again.

Very small room, but if you only want a place to sleep and will not be spending much time in your room, it will work for you. A lot of things to see within walking distance.

very good location. hotel itself is a little run down, but otherwise OK. Nothing more or less than what can be expected for the price

the radiator in our room clanged incessantly for an hour in the middle of the night. so loudly the people above us were stomping on the floor. i called the front desk, and they said there was no one here to fix it but it should stop soon. it did after an hour. 2 nights later, the same thing happened at 4am. i told them to get someone to fix it before […] i threw it out the window. they did, but only by turning it off. the temperature in our room dropped about 6-7 degrees, but it was worth being able to sleep. i will not be going back to this hotel. Two words.... Bed bugs!

Very convenient location, bit noisy,checking in very slow only 1 person on and nearly 1hour for them to get your car. Rooms are clean but beds are not so comfortable and long wait for hot water.

The Powell is in a fantastic location, central to public transit and the downtown area. The staff were nice, but we didn't need them much. Drawbacks: The radiator hissed all night (I know that this is a given with these old oil radiators, I've had them in apartments...but having it right next to the bed made it hard to sleep). The toilet was finicky […] - you had to jiggle the handle to get it to stop running. The bed had a nice pillowtop but underneath was rock hard, so after two nights we had backaches. All in all, you get what you pay for and this was a bargain for being so centrally located. As someone who doesn't mind staying in hostels, the issues we had weren't overwhelming and I would happily book there again. Læs mere

The location is good, if you don't take into account that the neighborhood is a little bit noisy: the room window came out to the corner of the Market and Powell streets, almost right over the cable car stop. Otherwise, the location is very convenient: the hotel is in the very center of the city, the BART station is right at the hotel, and the convention […] center is just three blocks from the hotel. I found the Powell to be in a central location. Perfect for a tourist; however, the building seems to have no insulation/noise protection. It is located in a very busy section of Union Square, and we could hear absolutely everything outside (from fire alarms to people talking). Convenient location- Market and Powell; walking distance to Westfield and other shops, BART, ATM, restaurants, and Trolley. Hotel is older and rooms are small, but they have free wine/beer and appetizers from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Mezzanine, as well as a free light continental breakfast in mornings for guests. A bit old, but the location is great

The Powell Hotel has a perfect location, we walked from there to almost all the places of interest we where expecting in our trip; The SFMOMA, The Asian Museum; theaters, good restaurants and all the stores you can need. However it surprise me a lot of people asking for help (money) in the surroundings. Dont expect any jazz from this hotel other than its located conveniently near the mall and the public transportation. Happy hour was pretty awesome but other than that it was just a place to wash up and sleep.

I read all of the reviews before booking so I knew it was going to be loud. It really wasn't as bad as I was expecting. If you are a light sleeper, then definitely bring ear plugs otherwise you will hate staying here. Can't beat the location. I stayed at the Powell Hotel for the Christmas Holidays. And I must say it is a wonderful hotel. The stay in San Francisco was made more memorable by the hotel. upon checkin the front desk was not friendly while trying to manage valet and check in. there were too many cars/people checking in, no valet attendant and on a busy street. i was reluctant to leave my car unattended in union square area because parking enforcement is on their job at all times. the first room was unimpressive with low rent upgrades, […] but the kicker was the crusty food stain on the comforter which made me question the cleanliness of the entire room. we asked to move to another room, that took forever, and then the second night in that room we found a visitor in the bathroom, ben. ben is the name i gave to this roach because he was about 2 inches long and therefore deserved to be addressed respectfully. RIght above the cable car stop on Market (which means it was noisy with the window open) this old hotel is still stylish and certainly convenient. The bed was comfortable. The room and bathroom small (like an old city hotel) but clean. In my room there was a problem with the radiator which meant it was very hot in the room and with the window open to […] let in cool air it was very noisy even into the late night. The "continental breakfast" that I was cheerfully offered was just sweet buns - not really breakfast food. In-room coffee would have been better. Læs mere

walking distance from bart powell st station. located at unioin square. huge room. can't beat it

in spite of some bad reviews we thought the hotel was great the rooms were clean the location was great the staff was very friendly. it was a super stay.. nothing to complain about..

This hotel was the best for our New Year's vacation. It was perfectly located next to all public transport including the cable cars. The breakfast and evening treats were a nice addition as well! Loved it!

It is ok nothing special no complian

If you're looking for a City hotel that is RIGHT AT SF Center, the Powell Street turntable, and all of Market Street, this is the place. Old school "salesmen's hotel" with small rooms, but you're not going to SF to hang in your hotel, are ya'? Thin walls, small rooms, perfect location. Your call, but I'd stay there again.

This is a good hotel, clean and in a very good location. Great hotel if you are in a budget.

A bit noisy, but it's because you're in the heart of downtown. Great for the price.

The best part about our stay at this hotel was the location. Right on the corner at the Cable Car turnaround on Powell. It doesn't get better for ease of use of the transit system for San Francisco. The hotel itself, though boasting a recent update was anything but. The room was anything but updated, the bed uncomfortable and cover in a plastic mattress […] pad, the radiator heat, though charming, was difficult to gauge and we were either very very hot of too cold. The view from our 4th floor room was a walled building and the bathroom ceiling full of mold. I had a huge problem with allergies while staying there. No I would not recommend this hotel to a friend unless they were looking for a perfect location and a shabby hotel. Læs mere

One of the most conveniently located hotels I have ever stayed at. Comfortable - almost luxurious. Staff friendly. Happy hour thrown in. Hotels.com rates excellent. What more you want?

Very great location and very good price.

Nostalgic and modern. Clean and comfortable. Parking is valet with unlmtd in/out but 33$... Same Pricing As other hotels in the area.

Very conveniently located near transportation(BART/MUNI and Cable Car terminal) Typical big city noise. Hotel is old and it shows. Heating by steam radiator did not seem to even work until after the sun went down. Only one ice machine, on the third floor and down two long hallways, serves the whole six-story hotel. Bathrooms are modernized very cheaply. […] "Re-Bath" type bath/shower update. Room walls not at all soundproofed. You will hear every conversation in the hallways. Læs mere

It is just next to the Powell BART station and is very convenience to go anywhere in SF. The hotel is very nice, provides with breakfast and snack at noon. The best is if the room has refridge.
